When was the last time a teenager debuted in the MLB (injury or otherwise)? A quick Google search shows me Doc Gooden was 19 when he made his first start in April of 1984. I think the story is the age and potential, not what he's putting up now. (Clearly). I was over his attitude before he started, simply because I wished he would just shut up and play ball. I think part of the fascination is because he is so cocky. But the Nats somehow put a leash on it for the most part, especially getting him to delete his Twitter account. I'd like for him to do well. I'd like anyone who shows promise to do well and not be a fuck up or a cocky bastard.

Anyhoo, they have to talk about it. And not just in reality, but way out in the stratosphere. He's a 19 year old playing on the Nats. He can't just be 'going to be good'. He has to be 'going to be great'. The Nats themselves are a story without him. But now, the Nats, Strasburg and Harper all rolled together? It'll fill the void til it's time to talk about Peyton Favre again, or whatever dog chases squirrel story comes floating by.

I believe Andruw Jones was 19 when he was called up.

And as annoying as all the Harper talk is, now that he's called up we're subjected to Nats commercials on MASN with him talking about how no one puts more pressure on him than himself.

Another Yu Darvish win tonight. He only had 9 strike outs tonight. I am incredibly happy with this guy. He is dominating out there.

Gah.

Anyway, you... people... seem to imbibe dodger baseball like 80s NBA players imbibed cocaine... did Mattingly really use the word "swag" when talking about Javy Guerra, or did someone make that quote up?

Guess Braun got tired of all the Kemp talk...3HRs tonight vs. the Padres. These are at Petco too and all have them have been blasts. Hopefully he is heating up!

EDIT: now a 2 run triple to tie a bow on it

You can hit home runs in PetCo Park? Somebody tell the Padres, I think they should know about this.

I'm just glad someone in the Nationals' organization finally has something to be cocky about. They haven't had much reason to brag during their tenure in Washington, and I think they're going to have to keep a little bit of an attitude if they want to stay on top.

Easy to hit HRs when you are juicing.  :P

Ohhh! Low Blow sir....low blow!

I really want the guy to have a great season if only to reduce the amount of crap he gets. If he can put up similar numbers to what he did last year (and his entire career really) I think (hope!) it helps take away a little of the stigma he now has attached to him.

I know I am probably being wishful here...but a guy can hope.

Weaver no-nos my team.  What a jerk.  Nine strike-outs and one walk.

(also, kudos to Msr. Weaver on his achievement.  I wish it had been against someone else, but good job, well-pitched)

The bigger story will be Pujols actually had a hit in that game.

Ah, but he was only 1-5, so his average continued its decline.  I've always liked Pujols, so I don't know why, but I am taking some sick kind of pleasure in just how terrible he's been.  I'll be happy if he starts raking, he's by all accounts a classy guy and a good representative of the game of the game.    I guess I just like him being one extreme or the other.

In the "Drama" section of the MLB news....Pettite sort of goes back on prior statements on the stand and now is saying that he may have misunderstood what Roger Clemens stated to him - a "50/50" shot of misunderstanding is a "fair" statement.
