I mean, we do the * thing with Barry Bonds, McGwire, etc., right? That's not considered controversial or anything, right? Roger Clemens used to be talked about as maybe the best pitcher of his generation, now it's debatable if he even gets in the Hall.
I think it's ok to contextualize stuff and, more, if we want people to stop doing this stuff, we HAVE to contextualize it. It's not fair to the guys who get carried down and weren't involved, but that's life.

But those are all purely individual, purely statistical achievements. It's different when you're talking about wins and losses in a team sport. To me, this is more akin to stealing signs in baseball, which I don't think anyone thinks would taint a championship, though it would be fun to argue about it.
