Since he is the son of Robert Bartheon, although a bastard, is there any claim at all for him in regard to the Iron Throne?

Or did that chance fade when Robert died before having the chance to legitimize him?

None, Bastard, not legitimized, not likely he ever will either. Nice guy though, I like him.

I think he is next in line if Stannis dies.

So, I hope he never gains the throne until the very end, after Stannis gets his well deserved hero's death.

edit- nevermind. I forgot about Shireen. Maybe she will die too...

Legally speaking, he has no claim.  That would not necessarily matter if he were well-known enough as Robert's son to gather the swords he'd need to win the Throne, but that isn't going to happen.

He'd either have to be legitamized or win the Throne through conquest and I don't see that happening.

I believe he will marry Arya and with her rule the north.

Not unless he's legitimized.

So he'll be a Consort Prince?

I dont think it will happen either, but he could rally Lady Stoneheart and the Brotherhood.

Has George RR Martin taught us nothing!  "power resides where men believe it resides"

That being said, no, Gendry will probably never step up to the throne.

Unfortunately, that's probably not enough to take King's Langing, much less hold it.
And associating with 'outlaws' will probably make it that much harder for him to be taken seriously.

Do we really have to card every king?    Why can't we just see that Gendry is cool and wave him through into the club without insisting that he show us his photo I.D.

Gendry is ignorant of his heritage, is illegitimate... and yeah it goes on from there. The only bastard that has a potential shot is Edric Storm, because at the very least he is an acknowledge child of Robert Baratheon. The funny thing would then be that he'd have to be legitimized via Royal Decree, and, well, that has absolutely no chance of happening because whomever did it would be giving up the Iron Throne in favor of him (unless that person is Tommen).

not unless he's legitimised, which wont happen as only a king can do that, and a king would want the iron throne for himself, maybe dany or aegon will make him or one of roberts other bastards lord of storms end, but at present neither he no any of roberts bastards have any claim to the throne, or in any line of succession

I can't imagine anyone who has the royal authority to legitimize him actually wanting to do so because that would automatically make him a strong contender for the throne as being the REAL first born son of Robert.

The Tyrells certainly wouldn't do it because Tommen is their ticket to power.

What's left of the Lannisters would NEVER.

Stannis wouldn't do this because he would have done it for Edric, which he didn't.

Daenerys hates anything connected to the "Usurper and his dogs" so that's a definite NO.

Tough luck, Gendry! He'll make a better warrior than a king anyway, sort of like his dad in that respect.

I don't get why fans are so obsses about who will be the king/queen.

Martin said that it's someone who will never guess. There are two reasons why Martin said this:
1) Some fans guess right on the various forums, so he want to trick us
2) It's someone we would never guess
3) He is not aware how easy it is to guess

You guys can debate who is more likely to be a king/queen, but it's useless. I an out of these topics.

I very much doubt Gendry even would want the throne. He despises all of the nobility, I just can't see that he would willingly chose to spend his life in their company. He just wants to settle down as a village blacksmith and be left in peace, even a castle armorer might be too high a position for his liking. If given the chance, Arya will most likely offer him the latter position as a gesture of friendship though.

It's fairly clear that Gendry didn't care that much that Arry was a girl, it was only when he learned that she was Lord Eddards daughter that a rift opened between them. He thought friendship was impossible due to their differences in their social rank, even though Arya had made plenty clear that she didn't care about that at all. To Gendry, nobles is something to keep well away from.

He is not legitmate, acknowledged or known to be Robert's bastard, so no. Besides if either Stannis or Tommen legitmized him they would effectively hand him over the crown.
