Please continue.

Sounders victory over LA last night in MLS, quite a good match for Seattle although I understand LA was missing both Beckham and Keane.

West Ham and Celtic matches this afternoon, let's go lads.

Unbelievably obnoxious broadcast.
Unfortunate, if true. Not that I doubt your analysis, I just have a severe lack of exposure.

And really, with the crazy amount of local broadcasting talent it was only a matter of time.

West Ham's match today is the first in the Championship playoffs for the final promotion spot. This is my first time having my club go through this, how does it work? Do they just continue from their current position in the table? Is everything zeroed out? Is there an entirely different structure?

The most amazing thing about the Celtic game today, well there's two (I'm off work until Tuesday, as well), is that it's actually not on early in the morning. A cool 12:45pm, bitches, which means beer.

And may I send my best wishes to the poor American bloke, Bill Miller, who is taking over Rangers FC. It was infuriating to hear their fans chant 'USA!' yesterday, but alas, their supporters were redeemed, when two banners were spotted decrying the American as an 'asset stripper'. Surely insane, they forgot that they are currently undergoing a world-class example of asset stripping, not from an American, but from a lovely man from Motherwell.

I've given up expecting sense from Rangers supporters

Of course from what I gather this is far from a done deal, some nontrivial obstacles still standing in Miller's way. Personally I think any such sale ought to include a provision that Miller must pursue any and all reasonable measures to stop Rangers fans sending any more mail bombs

The playoffs are entirely separate to the league. There are four teams and based on their league positions, they enter into a 4 teamed tournament. 3rd plays 6th and 4th plays 5th.

Play each other home and away, if there is no overall result it goes to Extra time then Pens. The winners of each leg go through to play each other in a final game at Wembley.

I don't like Rangers. Never have. But I must say that comments this ignorant and blinkered are unacceptable about any team. The idea that Rangers, as a club, bore any responsibility for this incident, or that there was anything Rangers could have done but failed to do to prevent it, is just utterly unrelated to the facts and demonstrates nothing but uninformed prejudice.

Heh, aye, like the club has stood in the way of allowing the hate-fest that goes on in Ibrox towards Lennon, and other Catholics through-out the years, to rise in prominence. You'd also need to ignore the fact their current manager, who you claimed recently to like, just last weekend was urging their own fans on to violence.

There's nothing Miller can do about the fans, per se, but the club has always allowed animosity towards the likes of Lennon, McCourt, McGinn, etc. to foster.

Pretty interesting to see who will be topscorers in the various big leagues..

In Germany it's between Huntelaar ( 27)and Gomez ( 26), one more game to play.
In England it's between van Persie ( 28) and Rooney ( 26), two games to play
In Italy Zlatan looks like he will win ( 26), but Cavani has 23. Two games to play.
In Spain Messi now leads with 46 goals, but Ronaldo follows with 44 goals. Falcao is a distant third with 23 goals. Two more games to play, and Madrid will do all they can to get Ronaldo to overtake Messi.

Interesting, indeed. Who will be Germany's main striker this summer? Mario Gomez has really struck a rich vein of form, but would they be wrong in going with big-tournament man, Miroslav Klose?

Well Low has constantly picked Klose so even with Gomez having had such a season, big chance that Klose will start.

For us it's also the main question that keeps people busy in the run-up to the EC, who will we play, Huntelaar or van Persie.

Messi just broke Gerd Müller's record for number of goals scored in competitive games in a single season, too (68 to Müller's 67 in 72/73). Of course Müller needed less games for his tally.

If Klose is fit he'll be the first choice striker, and unless he plays abysmally he'll remain as such for the tournament. Gomez simply doesn't offer as much to the overall game as Klose does. I'm hoping another striker in his mold establishes himself before he finally gets too old for this shit.

Of course Klose will also probably overtake Gerd Müller in total international goals soon (5 to go to draw level), but as Messi he'll have needed more games for it. He has almost twice as many caps already.

You know, I grew up in West Central Scotland in the 1980s, when things were ten time worse than they are now. Less than fifteen miles from Glasgow, in a town where the Orange Walk every 12th of July was a highlight, and in a street that had a Catholic school and a Proddy one right over the fence from each other. I had to run from 'fans' of both sides more than once - when I could run (nothing worse than being trapped on the wrong train after an Old Firm game). I still live in Scotland and have a healthy interest in football and in current affairs.

In other words I do have more than a passing familiarity with the OId Firm and what both sides of it have, and have not, done to counter sectarian bigotry.

So could you explain what Rangers have done or not done to 'allow animosity' to Lennon? Specifically? And how this contrasts with the approach Celtic have taken with McCoist, etc.?

Don't bother: you can't. Anything you say here will be fantasy conspiracy theory nonsense and a waste of bandwidth. Keep it for the Green Brigade message boards, they love that stuff. This thread, though, is about football. Let's keep it to that, shall we?

That's exactly right, we should definitely compare the two, because after all, both sides have tried to literally kill the other by mailing them viable explosive devices, and

Wait, well, still, because you see, Neil Lennon

In related news, both West Ham and Celtic up 1-0. Let's keep it up everyone

I need to know these things before I walk to Stanford in a few weeks to watch my first ever MLS match against the Galaxy and accidentally have the time of my life.

Let me give you the 411 on Steven Lenhart.  He's a c*nt.  Pure and simple.  Or a d*ck.  Whichever you prefer.  He's the worst kind of diver.  He's actually a bit more like a hockey goon.  He delivers cheap shots repeatedly throughout matches, usually get's away with it and ends up getting fouled as a reward for it.  He gets penalties for contact that he initiated.  And the few times that he's caught do nothing to satisfy all of the evil he's been responsible for.  I also blame him for the crucifixion of Jesus, WWI and Idi Amin.

And that's all you need to know about him.  He's a bad guy.  And San Jose's success annoys me all the more bc he's been a part of it.  He's so bad that San Jose's shirt sponsors dropped them in disgrace shortly after he joined and his former team Columbus finally got a new sponsor once he left.  Coincidence?  I think not.

Yeah it was a toothless LA attack, (thier attack basically revolves around Beckham's ability to pass the ball) and the first time Seattle's beaten LA in 2 years remarkably.   And as you mentioned on the previous thread, Seattle does have a couple of games in hand due to their participation in CCL.  LA does too, it's the reason they're both playing midweek games.  So they're essentially in position to be tied for first if they keep pace.  At this point LA's just playing to make the playoffs, they won't win the shield again.  Might be a good year for them to give a real effort for the US Open Cup, but I doubt they will.

Mormont, to be completely clear: my original post was just a bit of a nose tweak at Rangers' expense. I know they can't do much to prevent crazies from being crazy. But if you want to turn this into a fight about equivalence, you're going to lose.

Your upbringing doesn't give you an enhanced, nor unique, perspective on this situation, either. I grew up in Northern Ireland...boy, that was a fun place, as well. Tried to send you a PM earlier, but the forum ate it. Just want to say that point-scoring is a waste of time for everyone. I love football, so you can rest assured I'll stick with the topic.

And I'm pretty sure this is on topic, anyway, considering it's a huge problem in the game. Countless books have been written on the issue.
