So apparently (according to a report on WIC) they are doing casting calls for an 11 year-old girl. The scene they are doing is one where Shireen brings Davos a book in the cells (must be a new scene as I don't remember that from the books).

I'm kind of surprised by this, as I was certain that she was cut since she wasn't cast in this season where a lot of her scenes take place, and she isn't that critical to the plot so far in the series. That she is being cast I think can only mean one thing. GRRM has let D&D know that she is critically important to the future plot and that they shouldn't cut her.

Stannis, Mel and Davos don't really do much in the first half of ASOS, so maybe that's why they've included her. It seems like the show will be focusing on Davos learning to read.

I'm excited. They're being really wishy washy on Shireen, though. Show!Mel said that Selyse had only given birth to stillborns. They could play it up that she meant sons, as in heirs, I suppose.

Does this mean we get Patchface? I hope and I hope.

Melisandre mentioned in 2x02 that all the children Selyse has given Stannis had been still-born. It seems like they're going in the direction that Shireen never existed, which may very well backfire depending on where George is going with the character.

I'd love to have her in the show and maybe the 11 year old will be her, but I'll take this as nothing more than a rumour at this stage.

Yeah, I just rewatched the scene - Melisandre says "she's given you nothing, no sons, only still-borns."

"Nothing" kind of implies no children, so you can see where I was mistaken there.

Agreed that Mel's language strongly suggests that Selyse has born Stannis no children but technically leaves the door open for a daughter.

Man Davos learning to read is kind of interesting in the book, but not exactly a jammed packed day of celestial thrills for the TV audience.

Davos learning to read is the reason why Stannis

goes to the Wall to defend the realm and do all sorts of awesome.  That scene in the book where Davos realises the importance of what he's reading is spine-tingling,

so yeah they definitely should show that development in the TV series.

Great news. I knew they had to expand the Dragonstone cast for seasons 3 & 4 since there is simply no way that Stannis is going to sail to Dragonstone earlier in the show. That would only have been possible if they would cut down the whole Jon/wildling story, and I very much doubt that they will do this.

More importantly, Shireen Baratheon will be declared Queen Shireen, the First of Her Name in TWoW. Omitting Stannis's direct heir, would not make it possible for them to go down that whole Stannis plays dead road since Stannis's men would immediately forsake his cause when they learn about his (alleged) death. Selyse has no claim to anything. Without Shireen, she and Melisandre would have nothing.

But I guess it's possible that they will merge Edric Storm and Shireen in the series. It would be much more dramatic if Stannis would consider to sacrifice his own beloved daughter to wake dragons from stone. They could show us Salla and Davos smuggling Shireen out of Dragonstone just as Edric was smuggled, only to reunite them with Stannis later on, after they've decided to drop this whole stupid move and go to the Wall.

She specifically said: "No sons; only stillborns, only death."  I took that to mean she was only talking about boys from the first time I heard it, honestly.

It can be interpreted both ways. And from reading forums it seems like 95% of viewers interpreted it as no girls either. If they intended to have Shireen, they could have phrased that a LOT better.

I still think this was a bogus tip.
