The timing of the new thread is almost in sync with the game's release. Fire still rains from the sky and the end of days is nigh!

If you'd like to play with others from the board, feel free to post your battle tag ID and region.

As requested at the end of the previous thread, I will try to keep a list of all the battle tags in the first post, but I may shirk on these duties a bit around the 15 :).

Here's the thread for all things D3.

Rules:

1. Spoilers for story should be put into spoiler tags during the first 2 weeks following release. After that, it's fair game, and people should avoid the thread if they don't want to be spoiler'd after the 2 weeks period.

2. Do NOT post your real-money Auction House listings. If you want to drum up business, use a different venue. You can talk about your successes/failures at the real-money Auction House, but you cannot post your listings or direct people to your listings. Offenders will be temp-ban'd, and repeat offenders will be perma-ban'd.

3. If you want, you can post your battletag and I will add it to the list here. Just know that we are a public forum that various search engines can index.

4. Other standard forum rules apply (no flames, no illegal activities).

It's not region-locked, so region doesn't matter...

but I'll be playing on NA!

Some features are disabled if you're playing outside of your native region, though.

Also you cannot play with players from different regions, unless you or they switch and the characters are non-transferable. Therefore it's good to know someone's region before deciding on whether you can potentially play with them :).

Well yeah, it's like the old Bnet system.

All this is new to me so I'm not really sure how this works.

What happens if I want to play with one of you but you're a much higher level than me. Does that affect what we can and cannot do? And what's the max amount of people you can have in the game play with you?

Max people per team/game = 4
If someone is in your team, and around 6-7 lvls higher, you will get very little experience, due to them overpowering all challenges.
You can run any quest together regardless of level. (There are still restrictions to  difficulty by level, though. You cannot play Inferno until lvl 60, even if you beat hell at 55)

Hope this helps!

I'm still heavily debating what character to play first.

I was a Paladin in D2... which would seem to be a monk equivalent, but that doesn't seem to appeal to me.  I was a warrior in WoW, but I don't know if the Barbarian is my thing either.  I would say Demon Hunter... but I never cared much for the Assassin in D2.

What to do... what to do...

Monk is very much Paladin archetype. Auras, blessing-type spells, crazy melee attacks (well, attacks are around 1/2 d2 paladin 1/2 d2 assassin).  Also, later armor sets make monk resemble a paladin more and more.

WoW Warrior is pretty close to Barbarian in terms of style and options. You can go heavy tank style, huge slow 2handed maul behemoth or quick frenzied type. You can also build around throwing weapons (or corpses).

Demon hunter is a lot of fun if ranged is your thing. Probably my favorite in beta, though I will play a barb at release.

Good info.  I did not play the beta... when you say "heavy tank style" does this mean that there is an element of tanking/threat management in this game?  Since my only real multiplayer experience with D2 was a Pally/Barb combo with my brother; so if there was threat management in D2, I didn't know it.

As far as I know there's no "real" threat/tanks, monsters tend to attack whoever's closest to them. Barbarians just seem to have the most damage mitigation so could be seen as "tanks."

High dodge monks may also be viable, will have to see when higher difficulties get reached.

I've watched a few more videos.  I think I'll start with the Monk for familiarity's sake.  I didn't realize that they could eventually learn to use swords/maces (doesn't seem very monkish).

Correct, the only threat ability I know of is mercenary based - Templar's taunt.
What I mean by tank is the character that is the one at front line taking most damage while the glass cannon (dh/wizard) are firing from behind. Barb can do well there with multiple damage reduction/life leech abilities, high natural HP, 30% base damage reduction and ability to use shields.

Yes I played a monk mostly in the open beta weekend and he could use most or all non-ranged weapons that weren't class specific. Though the attack animations have the weapons disappear and he just uses his fists, which is a bit odd. Apparently they fixed it so FIST weapons actually show up when he uses his....fists now.

Yeah, this is a little disappointing, but I think with such a huge number of weapons and so many complex attack animations it'd be way too difficult for them to put it in.

I think I'm going to start a Monk. It seems like the class that I'm used to playing. Can't wait for this game to come out. I'm itching for it.
