Solmyr, I'm willing to buy that the dh will be the most diverse in playstyle. I'm not going to grant that this implies the most fun. And the beta just didn't have much in the way of oomph. Maybe later she gets some big booms, but from what I've seen that's a big no; even grenades seem fairly puny compared to the big splashy effects others get.

I guess I was really hoping for something like the lightning storm of the javazon or the multishot combined with specialty arrow feel that flooded the screen with fun times. Just haven't seen that. Her abilities are just too subtle for my tastes.

That being said she's going to be the best hc build by far. She has so much in the way of cc and survival.

I'll be first building a wizard, and hopefully leaning toward the precision glass cannon feel - precise movements, limited use of teleport, lots of arcane power regen, and plenty of zapping.

Next char up will be a barb, and I'm currently leaning toward a build focusing on extending the Wrath of the Beserker buff as logn as possible with lots of rage regen.

My work's schedule varies from week to week, and I got my boss to give me the 16th off. She was surprised when I asked, as it's my first request off I've ever asked for, other than a vacation a few months ago. Hah, what a geek.

Kalbear, I agree that diversity =/= fun for all people, but some players like it a lot (incl. myself) and that is why I was elaborating on how good the Discipline mechanic is in my opinion. That being said, if you're basing your dislike of the class merely on the beta I would advise that you take another look once the game launches - even if it's in the form of watching a high-level DH movie. In the beta we saw perhaps 10% of all the skills/runes that are in the game. Furthermore we only had access to low-level crappy items and monsters, both not really suitable for testing builds. The Amazon in D2 was quite bad until late levels and you didn't have any awesome lightning storm or split arrow that cover the entire screen, not to mention you needed good weapons equipped and a huge pack of monsters (cattle? ;)) to actually feel said awesomeness.

Although I keep an open mind about all the classes in the beta I am very skeptical that the DH will be the best hc class. Currently I am unwilling to give even a slight edge to any class, cuz we simply know too little about the content after Leoric and the difficulty curve after Normal. Many people are in the Monk camp, others think the Wizard will be able to slow time, freeze and teleport out of any predicament.

Well, I typically suck at playing melee class, so I am trying to decide between Demon Hunter, Witch Doctor, and Wizard. Wizard seems more like an update from D2, and not a new class (same with Barbarian), so probably DH or WD. On one hand, DH is a mix of bowazon and trapsassin, both classes that I like in D2, so it should fit my playstyle. On the other hand, WD does not seem to get a lot of love right now so I am tempted to try it out just to see.

I guess I'll decide at the character choice screen.

Any way, are there decent websites out there on classes and builds yet? Or is it still too early for that?

I've been reading the D3 forums and people seem to be posting quite a few builds. Not having a clue about this game, it's been interesting reading.

Probably but I would doubt their 'decency'. Nobody has played the game past lvl13 and nobody has seen most of the skills. Although the written description is quite thorough, we'll have to see the functionality of some skills and runes before deciding how good they are.

Also, most builds will be viable on normal and even nightmare. And by late nightmare you should know enough about your class to make a good build without relying on external sources. That's what the game is all about - making your own builds.

Also, realistically while going through the game you won't care about bulids. You'll just change every few minutes as needed. It's not until you get to hell that you'll care about how to maximize survivablilty and maintain the nephalem magic find buff.

I've got 8 or so buddies all getting this game. Unfortunately I can't go to the midnight launch or take some time off to power level.
Wizard will be blowing shit up!

6 hours to the installing can begin, then another 7 to wait for the servers to open. I am somewhat looking forward to it.

God, this year without my gaming pc has been a nightmare. I won't be able to start D3 until I get home in September. I will be living vicariously through this thread, so please update it to your heart's content.

Having trouble choosing what to play, I think they all look very awesome.  I am such a big diablo fan, always been one of my favorite games started with the first one.

We're less than 24 hours away now! Thought I'd re-post Prince Alexander's link from last week.

Launch Day Preparation Guide

I'm getting ready to download the launcher now!  Hoping my file download went off without a hitch.

I downloaded it and was going to install it... but I got "The fire from the sky still falls.  Diablo 3 has not yet launched."  Should have looked at the faq a little more closely.

Quote

Early Install
We will be unlocking the game's installer at 8:01 a.m. PDT on May 14. This will allow you to begin installing the game, troubleshoot any issues you run into, download and install the launch day 1.0.1 patch, and be ready to play as soon as the servers come online.

So I guess I need to wait a couple more hours yet to make sure it went off without a hitch!

Still two hours before installer opens here, the game goes live in 9. I have scheduled about 6 hours worth of distractions before then, I guess I will clean or something for the other three.

5% done! only 95% to go.. and of course, wait until midnight. I just got back from jogging for the first time in a year, exhausting most avenues for spending time now.

The game can be installed now. At least I'm in the middle of doing so.
