So, basically there is always talk about new theories and what tvists could occur in the future. But what I am after is what tvists we've already got. There are many theories about Jon's parents being Rhaegar and Lyanna and speculations about Howland Reed being a supercargo and warning into Arthur Dayne, but that is not my question. I am looking for the twists that we have already got in the first books (i've only read 2,3 and 4th) that's why I put it here.
One that i think we've had is Arstan Whitebeard being Ser Barristan. But there haven't been any major ones yet, as i see it. It is okay to include tvists from the fifth book too, i donut mind.

What tvists have we got so far in the series?

Littlefinger and Lysa being Jon Arryn's murderers and not the Lannisters.

The man sent to attack Bran in GoT being just a petty thing done by Joffrey, not anything of significance.

I mean, for anyone except Bran.

Don't you agree that that explanation was kinda odd? I think Littlefinger is behind this aswell.

It was, but I sorta like the idea that a single arbitrary act could be the catalyst for the world going to hell.  Had an assassin not shown up to kill Bran, everyone would have just assumed that he fell by accident, Catelyn would have never gone south and taken Tyrion hostage, meaning there would be a hell of a lot less tension between the Starks and the Lannisters et cetera et cetera.

We like to think there was a master architect for everything rolling down hill, but I think its cooler that it all began at the whim of a spoiled prince, and a clever man just took advantage of it as best he could to steer things in his favor.

Ah well, maybe you are right! I don't know.

Rickon and Bran not being dead in A Clash of kings, for a few pages Martin really made it look like they were dead

Lord Beric Dondarrion always seemed to be building up to some important destiny....then he died anti-climatically off screen.

How about the twist where Viserys is the heir and Deanarys is the unimportant sister to be wed off morphed into crazy Viserys is dead and Dany is the almighty Dragon queen? Or how about the dragons hatching? I know it all happened back in Game but still they were quite the twist of fate...

Tywin Lannister sleeps with whores. That literally made my jaw drop! Also, I love the Cersi and Maggy revelation. It kind of reveals why she hates Tyrion so much.

Catelyn Stark dies, then comes back.
Tysha is not a whore.
Danny almost sells one of her dragons, but then doesn't ... (It happens quickly but it felt like quite a twist when I read it)
The loss of Jaime's hand, and he turning into a good guy on the back of that.

When I was first reading the part in GOT with Tyrion's trial at the Eyrie, I thought that Lysa might be behind the murder (although I didn't suspect Littlefinger). After the trial I kinda figured that was just nonsense and gave up on the theory altogether. What a shock it was when it surfaced back at the end of ASOS.

How about Margaery not being a virgin?  I definitely thought she was, even though I wasn't surprised to hear she wasn't.

Or Tywin's involvement in Robb Stark's marriage to Jeyne Westerling?  I'd heard theories, but didn't think that Tywin could possibly manage something like that.

It's definitely still possible that margaery's still a virgin...Cersei said that highborn girls break their "maidenheads" riding horses all the time...something's up with the tyrells but i don't think that that's it

Man that bit about Lysa Arrn killing her husband with Petyr's help, that blew my mind.littlefinger knows how to play the game i hope somebody screws him in the arse.If it wasn't for Lysa's stupid letter to Cat about the Lannisters killing her husband Eddard might still be alive. Or they might of killed him anyway who knows.
