interested to see who everyone says are their favourites. For me it is probably;

Jon Snow
Ned Stark
Davos Seaworth
Arya Stark
Donal Noye (badass)
Arthur Dayne (for what he stood for)
Jaime Lannister (probably get a lot of hate for this one, but since he became a POV and i've got to know more of his back story and conflicts he had to deal with, i thouroughly enjoy him as a character, whilst i still cant forgive him for throwing bran out the window however)
Sandor Clegane (again just a really interesting character, love the bits with him in)

forgot the Red Viper of Dorne, Oberyn Martell is awesome

There are, of course, many others but i wanted to keep it short and these are probably my top.

1. Jon Snow-Cause he's a bastard born out lust and he's wanton! No really because so little is expected from someone born at his station. And the fact that Cat can't stand him
2. Arya-She is just an awesome female character. She is the opposite of Sansa who I can't stand.
3. Tyrion-He's so damm funny I didnt like him in the first book. but he grew on me. And I have a soft spot for bastards, cripples and broken things.

Sansa, always and forever. Why? On my first ever reading of AGOT, her POV made the most immediate sense to me--she was the most relatable (I can understand having annoying siblings who like to ruin everything and stables ARE smelly). After everything she goes through and the response from the fandom, I've become even more set in my ways.

Tyrion Lannister.

Through all the ups and downs, the things he's done, the things done to him, the humor, the kindness, the compassion, the cruelty, the wit, the irony, the self-awareness, the self-delusion, the deep ache of longing for things forever unattainable.  He has it all.

ASOIAF has no one central protagonist, but to me, Tyrion has been the beating heart of the entire narrative.

Considering the crazy amount of characters, I'm not sure this is possible. But here is my best attempt

Robb Stark
Jon Snow
Davos Seaworth
Ned Stark
Tyrion Lannister
Howland Reed (I am full of anticipation)
Brynden "The Blackfish" Tully
Rhaegar Targaryen
Jaqen H'gar
Mance Rayder
Baristan Selmy
Arya Stark
Gendry

Jaime--He was the best sword in the land and was a disgusting person.  But hey, he was capable of feeling love and affection.  Now, we get to see the man that he should have been all along.  And also, his insights about combat and his views on other characters I take to be pretty much gospel.
Arya--Her personal journey is crazy.  Out of all the characters, I feel that she's been on the most difficult journey.  And she's a Stark
Sansa--Another character on a ridiculous journey.  She started out as being very naive, but now she's learning.  And, oh yeah, she's a Stark.
Davos--The last honest man in the realm.  He's a genuinely nice guy, who's in way over his head.  He isn't on the crazy character development arc that others are on, but Stannis likes him and trusts him, and Stannis doesn't like or trust anybody.
Roose Bolton--A reprehensible man, yet I cannot look away.  Cruel, cunning, and the lord of a house that has been around for thousands of years.  When Roose speaks, we all listen.  Hope he kills that bastard of his though.  Ramsey, I hate you.
Theon--Just a misunderstood boy trying to fit in but ends up making all the wrong choices.  We shouldn't feel sorry for him, but I do.  I liked him a lot better before he turned traitor.
Dead characters:
Ned--It all starts with him.  He's the perfect foil for the Lannisters, he is what's best in men.  That being said, he makes some of the worst decisions in the whole series.  Still, he is THE Stark.
Rhaegar--After Ser Arthur, the guy I'm most interested in.  Mysterious guy.  He's like the elephant in the room in all the books, we need to learn about Rhaegar, and we need it now.
Ser Arthur Dayne--A man of the highest honor, and also was the best sword in the land while he was alive.  A true knight, what others should strive to be.

Other characters as well, but I feel a need to address those that I hate.

Hate Samwell--Annoying, to skittish.  Can't stand his mannerisms and constantly being unsure of himself.  Whiney bastard.
Hate Cersei--I hate her chapters, she's a boring character that is not growing or changing, just digging a deeper hole for herself and everyone around her.
Hate Mance--Half assed king of people that live in snow and dirt.  Nothing special or grand about him.  He comes off as being very flat.
Hate All The Wildings--Boring people.  Mance was their leader.

Stannis Baratheon - because out of all the pretenders vying for power, Stannis is the one I wouldnt mind going into battle for.

Prince Oberyn Martell.

This guy is just made of pure awesome, he is one of the most skilled warriors around and has traveled all over the world.  He studied at the Citadel, he's well read, intelligent, honorable and sexually adventureous, and he isn't caught up in the pretentious crap the rest of the aristocracy indulge in.

Really if I was going to accept a man as my king or liege lord, I would expect them to be comparable to Oberyn Martell.

Stannis Baratheon. Bad-ass, one of the guys who knew about the Lannister incest, makes so much success for himself out of very few resources. Etc etc. Such an amazing veteran.

I've many other reasons but I just made a big post in another topic and I'm lazy.

Jon, Arya, Davos, Jaime and Bran are my top 5 and its unlikely that it changes anytime soon. I love every one of them, such different people, because of reasons. Jon and Davos are basically the same for me (thats why Im dying to see them meet each other) they are genuinelly good people trying to do the right thing and they are getting things not because of their name but because of their work. Arya is my little wild thing, I love her and I love her relationship with Jon. Bran is the opposite, I know some people find him boring but not me. He is wise and powerful, I'd dare to say right now he is the most powerful of all the Stark children. Jaime, well, there are some things I'm never gonna forgive him (Bran, Jory...) but I'm loving him at the moment.

Other characters I love are: Theon (not my favorite person, not my least favorite either but the most amazing and complex character of the series in my opinion), Asha (best thing that could happen to the Seastone Chair, to be honest), Mance (great King who cares about his people), Val (I just love her, she is wise, brave and funny), Edd (you sir are awesome), Meera Reed, Ned, Podrick, Gendry, Brienne...

Daenerys Targaryen because she's just generally awesome

Tyrion Lannister because he's amusing and always surprisingly resourceful

Arya Stark because she's tough and a survivor

Brienne of Tarth and Davos Seaworth because I idealize what they represent

Bronn because despite being a minor character, he's ... well ... he's Bronn, okay?

Davos - he was a smuggler in the past and yet he is one of the few truly honest people in the Realm. Even when surrounded by people who wouldn't think twice on killing/harming him (Axell Florent, the Freys) he always speaks the truth. And all he really wants it's a quiet life with his wife and kids....

Sansa - she reminds me of my younger self, I can definitely relate to her.

Cat - just love love love Catelyn. For everything and more (that isn't to say she doesn't have her faults, every character does).

Davos
Jaime (In my opinion he is a hero: Slaying Aerys was the only right thing. Sometimes the end justifies the means. He saved Kingslanding.  but yes, he made many mistakes too^^)
Theon (I like peoble who smile a lot. And later in the story I just pity him and hope that he will recover)

Jon - because he's just a good person trying to do the right things, and he's a bastard (like me :P) who did not get things handed on a silver plate in life (yeah yeah some say he's a Mary Sue but I don't think so), and his story arc with the Wall and mostly the wildlings is the most interesting for me.

Arya/ Davos - can't decide who of them I like better, they're both awesome characters in their own way. Davos is just a very honorable, loveable person who deserves happiness, and Arya is my little super ninja assassin wolfgirl, she's simply the best.
After that it's all a bit blurry, I love Theon, his character arc is probably the most fascinating of them all, if you like him or not. Jaime's development is great aswell, and of course I love all my wildlings!
