If the whole episode takes place in KL, I wonder if the episode opening will still zoom to Winterfell, the Wall, Qarth, etc. I'm guessing it probably will...

It would be cool if we just got an extended, closer up KL section with ships sailing into the bay, catapults flinging wildfire and formations of troops lining up on the opposite shore. But probably not.

You are right, it is a very common thing to do but I guess I just expect more from them. Or maybe they will do it in a way that will shut me up.
Oh well, only two/three days until we find out. I just can't wait.

What is the basis for such specific figures?

Don't think they can do it (can try) because there is *Tyrion wakes up to new situation* in ep10 summary.

Doesn't really apply seeing as the entire summery of the finale is a spoiler! Including the victor in Blackwater;
Spoiler

The summery is blacked out on this site, but is written clearly on others. I found it very odd that its soo spoilerish!!

It's all a matter of taste, of course. Still, after studying classics/literature at University and not being a fan at all of this genre, I find GRRM to be a fantastic writer. Aside from perhaps Dostoyevsky, I can't think of another author whose writing barely has an extra or unnecessary word. It amazes me practically every word in every book is there for a specific reason, and the story would lose something with its removal.

Perfectly said! It was not until about 1/2 through SoS that I started realizing the importance of Each and every story he tells. After finishing all 5 I went straight back in and was even more amazed during second reading by the shear complexity of this story. I can Only imagine that GRRM pores over each sentence for weeks before he's satisfied(that doesn't please all fans of course).

1) I think that if HBO intended to use Renly's "ghost" they would make his armor more memorable for the viewers by making us see him wearing the full set, specially the helmet since it would cover this face. Thats's the idea right? The soldiers looking at that amazing armor and just running for their lives. If HBO have to add someone screaming "Oh No, that's Renly's ghost!" to explain who is that for the viewers it just doesn't seem right.

I have to say I definitely agree... but they Did do a little video thing about the armour were they talked up how great it looks. Seems strange they didn't bother to show Renly with it.

^^^Jaimie Lannister; I REALLY hope Atleast part of your spoiler is not true:-(

This is a bot OT, but: - how to understand "White Walkers speaking Skroth"? Do they mean a language of White Walkers? I've got to see the pilot once again for I never through there could be herad any kind of speech in the White Walkers scenes. I thought the ice-cracking sounds where sounds of their movement, not their speach, got to refresh WW book scenes, too.

The Other said something in a language that Will did not know; his voice was like the cracking of ice on a winter lake, and the words were mocking . . . Far beneath him, he heard their voices and laughter sharp as icicles. - A Game of Thrones, page 10, prologue.

Certainly it’ll’ve been the episode you’ll’ve waited the most time for, that’s for sure. But yeah, I know what you mean. As far as I can tell, the last episode will have to fit all of these critical elements into it — somehow:
  • Dany at the House of the Undying, and its aftermath, and perhaps also her departure from Qarth probably on the ship Jorah found, quite possibly probably without yet meeting up with Magister Illyrio’s envoys, Strong Belwas and now-Squire Artsan Barristan.
  • Xaro Xhoan Daxos somehow getting his comeuppance for betraying Dany and the opening and reveal of whatever if anything is actually locked away in Chekov’s Treasure Vault; does this fund Dany’s expedition to Slaver’s Bay?
  • The Sack of Winterfell by the Bastard’s Boys, including Theon’s capture and either imprisonment or apparent death.
  • Bran and Rickon’s departure from the crypt, including meeting Luwin one last time, and probably the two boys somehow getting split up; how to do this unless Luwin is to survive the sack I have no idea.
  • Arya receiving the iron coin and the special phrase “Valar Morghulis” from Jaqen.
  • Tyrion awakening in his sick bed to discover that he is no longer hand and that his father the conquering hero has stolen all Tyrion’s glory for having rescued King’s Landing.
  • Something for Sansa linking her to the next season, possibly Margaery replacing her as Joffrey’s betrothed.
  • Jon killing Qhorin to join the wildings; rumour is that we get a glimpse of giants here.
  • Davos getting rescued from the Spears of the Merling King by Salladhor Sam and thrown into the dungeon at Dragonstone by Melisandre.
  • Some kind of link to the next season for the Robb and Catelyn arc.
  • Some kind of link to the next season for the Jaime and Brienne arc.
That seems like a huge whole lot to try to cover even in one long 64-minute episode (its supposed running time). I fear all that means that we won’t be getting anything like as much of #1 as we might all like to see, but Emila Clarke has said in an interview that fans of the books would not be disappointed by the dramatic resolution to her plot arc this season. One hopes she’s right about that.

I don't see why you necessarily need any particular resolution with Xaro, and I don't think there's really any need for further Brienne and Jaime.  Xaro's treasure vault may turn out to be no more Chekhovian than the indications that Littlefinger and Tywin were suspicious of Arya's identity.  I also think Sansa is likely going to see Dontos again, and that Bran and Rickon quite possibly won't be separated until next season.

I agree, even the 'boring' (which is the opinion of the majority of the forums, not mine) Brienne chapters have a purpose, in my opinion to show how the common people respond to the war and that's why I loved them. We had seen enough through the eyes of Queens, Hands, Lords and Sers, but none through the eyes of the common folk. I'm glad I discovered the importance of every sentence and every word aswell, because it makes the books much and much better.

I'm glad that Tyrion was knocked out in the show before the battle of the green fork. He's a dwarf, I have a hard time believing he is a formidable warrior. That was one thing I thought was ridiculous from the books. I wonder how HBO will handle his involvement in the battle of Blackwater

I thought the scene where Tyrion is practically jumping ship to ship and killing people was ridiculous.  I agree.  This is a dwarf who is constantly described as wobbling.

As for Daxos, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being killed.  Dany promised her khalasar that their enemies would die screaming and on the show Daxos betrayed her by stealing her dragons.  Not to mention killing some of her khalasr and Irri in the process.  Dany has to respond to that.

I would assume the vault is opened at some point this season - if you watch the HBO GO interactive features, they went to extensive detail in designing the vault, and the key around his neck actually does in fact open the vault.  Seems like a lot of design & construction expense for something that never comes into play on-air.

Thats's the idea right? The soldiers looking at that amazing armor and just running for their lives. If HBO have to add someone screaming "Oh No, that's Renly's ghost!" to explain who is that for the viewers it just doesn't seem right. 2) They released the 2nd season soundtrack and the last song is called "three horns". I guess that's the final scene for the season. I love the "broken" scene and I wan't to see it but the "three horns" is more powerful to end it exploading the viewer's heads.

I'm hoping we see Renly's Ghost. Many of Stannis' men were Renly's men, they'd recognize him.  We saw his armor on two or three occassions, all you really need is a bunch of people saying, "Renly,"  "It's Renly's Ghost"...i'm not sure why you think that wouldn't seem right, it seems like a very normal response for people to have...having Stannis hear and see the charge would make for great TV, they could even add a flashback of Renly in his armor.  No matter, should be a hell of a time.

Since we just recently saw Sam find the dragonglass, I think there's a really strong chance we'll get Sam killing a white walker in this season ender...I think hearing three horns and everyone saying "Three horns...White Walkers!" and a fade to black would piss me off beyond belief.

Based off of the changes, seems the smart money's on Dany killing Xaro after she burns down the HOTU, taking the key and probably opening the vault at the end of the episode.  It kind of sucks that we likely won't get a sorrowful man, but as long as HOTU is cool and Dany gets to be a badass again (Season 3 should be non-stop badassery on her part), I'll be happy.

Tyrion being knocked unconscious -- by accident and by his own men -- is even more ridiculous than him fighting in a battle (I'll explain why in the next paragraph), at least IMO. They did this for practical reasons (it would be too expensive to shoot the battle), not because they felt it was unlikely that he would survive the battle. In the books, GRRM makes a reasonable effort to show how Tyrion manages to stay alive.

Besides, in a battle, a person of Tyrion's rank and importance would be well protected by a strong personal guard, such as the Gold Cloaks. It's not as if he's going engage ten enemy solders single handed, that's just stuff you see in Hollywood-films (1). And he doesn't necessarily have to be a strong, tall soldier in order to be a good commander or leader (another misconception): A good battlefield commander or tactician knows how to maneuver his military resources (men, equipment, etc.), and he knows when and where to attack or defend (timing can be crucial or decisive). A leader like this can be very important on the battlefield, even though he's a weakling, physically speaking.

(1) Although I wouldn't be surprised if we see him kill a few enemy soldiers in the Blackwater episode. At least it will make him look cooler, and perhaps the writers want to compensate a bit for the fact that Tyrion was knocked out even before the battle began in season one.

I Really doubt it. I cant imagine a scene were all the WW start coming up and Sam just pops one in the neck before the fade to black + there's the problem that he would probably just Give the arrow heads & daggers out, the other NW can't know what the DG does. It would make the WW seem really weak to the viewer. Sorry you don't like it but I definitely think north of the wall will end with 3 horn blasts. It might be early season 3 when the watch is scattered that Sam gets his chance.

The problem with this is that Tywin put him in the vanguard with a bunch of hill tribesmen. Not exactly adequate protection. ( I do realise this is in the show and he gets knocked out)

Isnt this battle in the books involving wights not white walkers? because they use fire to fight them off?

It's interesting that they went to such great expense.
But who cares?
Does it really matter whats in it?
Is it going to effect Dany's story in anyway?
I don't really get it, if its full of gold that'll get her and her what 7 people a ship? You don't need a vault for that. I'm just worried this whole thing is building to absolutely nothing. What could possibly be in there to benefit her story?
Spitball? Vault contains?
Barristan?
Some Unsullied??

Maybe her dragons are in there?

EDIT: On a second thought. Maybe she uses the coin the vault to buy the Unsullied next season.

Yeah, I think you're right, so its a moot point. But there is definitely 3 horn blasts, so 3 blasts for both WW AND Wights?!?!
