Judging on that we're getting a King's Landing only episode (including Sandor/Sansa scenes, and Tywin to the rescue). My expectations are high.

EDIT: The recap of the previous episode is always the previously on segment for the next episode, for those who didn't know.

Hmmm, in the preview Tyrion says "Rain fire on them". Are the ships with wildfire getting cut? That was good part of Tyrions plan as well, a way of not having the wildfire burning in the city...

Thanks for providing the link to the 'previously on' segment.

It does give me hope that a Sansa and Sandor scene will be included, but as to the nature of that scene, I am still not really sure what to expect.

I imagine a fleet of burning ships crashing into other ships was the first thing to go when they were working on the budget.

I can't find the source, but I'm sure I read that they moved a part of the battle to solid ground (budget reasons). I assume Tyrion will speak the line when Stannis' men landed on the shore and are marching toward the city gate.

EDIT: I'm sure we're getting wildfire aswell, since they introduced it already.

I really look forward to this episode, but at the same time we have to keep in mind that we're not talking about a $150 M budget here, so it would be unrealistic to expect something like LOTR. Nonetheless, I believe they'll manage to pull this off in a relatively convincing manner, given their lower budget. There haven't been a lot of major action scenes in season 2 anyway, so episode 9 should be a treat

I'm quoting Benioff in full here, because he's got a very good point. This is one of the reasons why I didn't feel the LOTR-movies were particularly good (apart from the first one) or engaging: The battles were visually stunning, but I didn't care much for the characters, so the movies felt more like style over substance. And depicting the battle from the ground's eye view can be very effective as well, as shown in Steven Pressfield's epic battle novels (illustrates very well the raw physicality, brutality and chaotic nature of such battles from a 1st person POV) and the movie Saving Private Ryan (I'm not saying that big, 'epic' establishing shots are totally unnecessary, though. I'm just saying that it's not necessarily only a matter of scale and epicness).

EDIT: BTW, interesting that they've hired Neil Marshall. I've seen all his movies, and he makes decent action/sci-fi/horror movies on smaller budgets.

Why can't anyone post about wishing they would show a bit more of Sansa and the Hound's scenes together without someone commenting negatively about San/San shippers?

For the record, I have already explained that my wish to see more scenes from the book between Sansa and Sandor on screen in this season is moreso to do with wanting to see their characters fleshed out more.

I think both Sansa and the Hound have not had enough screen time this season, and it just so happens that they *do* have many scenes together in ACoK, so why not show this?

Yeah, it would make San/San shippers happy, but more importantly it would also provide better insight into two characters as individuals, imo, who have been very much underused this season.

I apologize for going into this, as I know such discussion is better left to the Nitpick threads. Nevertheless, I just felt I needed to clarify why I keep bringing it up. Everyone reads the series and comes away having 'gotten' different things out of them, and everyone has things they wish to see on screen. Many of us have been frustrated and/or are anxious about possible changes.

I'm just voicing my own personal concerns about the upcoming episode. I'm trying to be optimistic......I'm sure it will be a very good hour of television. GRRM's episode last season was excellent, so over all, despite my reservations, I am still loking forward to it.

This is sort just a random comment but I'm glad that Cersei and Sansa haven't had any scenes with those ridiculous southern hairstyles lately. Honestly I found it distracting  and quite frankly they both look much prettier with their hair down (not that that's the only important thing about their characters of course).

I agree, I actually like her as an actress. She has done a decent job with the material she's been given -- it is just a pity they haven't given her more to do (as of yet)......

I'm hoping they will somehow manage to show the contrast between Sansa and Cersei's reactions to the battle, with Cersei drinking, getting panicky about Joffrey, and then leaving the women when they need her most, vs. Sansa, who keeps her head and tries to calm everyone around her, and even tends to Lancel's wounds.

Even if they don't show all of that, it would be great if they somehow get across this same idea.

Edited to add: I agree wholeheartedly about those silly hairstyles....it really took me out of the 'moment' last season. Bleh.

Damn, some of those posters are really tacky. Btw, isn't that a quote from Varys referring to what will happen when Daenerys' dragons are grown? I think they used that line on one of the battle teasers.

Yeah, you are right. Varys said it. I think the essence of the line is the same (concerning a rain of fire).

Yep.  People continually underestimate the budgetary restrictions.  Even with the extra cash, Blackwater probably "only" cost $10M-$15M more than the previous season's $6M average (although some of that is shared cost across episodes).  It's an hour long, but how many great period action movies have budgets anywhere near that low?  Not many.

As for the rest, I really like the fact they decided to shoot the battle at human scale: first, its better, second, its cheaper.

And I really look forward the more calm moments (the citadel of Maegor with the women, the Sansa bedroom scene...).

And answering to what someone said in the very first page of this thread: yeah, I liked the:

"Ony two episodes left !"
"There's too many !"
