And here is that promised teaser for “Blackwater”:HBO has also released a trailer titled “War of the Five Kings” which adds a couple more glimpses of the episode, as well as doing a very succinct job of setting up all the rival kings (and their situation to date):Looks like there’ll be much blood and mayhem in this Neil Marshal-directed, George R.R. Martin-written episode!(And yes, our coverage of “A Prince of Winterfell” is still not going up until Monday afternoon !)

Judging from the teasers it's going to be epic.

Hibberd comes through with a great piece about Blackwater.  It is full of good stuff; one of the more interesting tidbits is that Marshall was an emergency replacement for the original (unnamed) director:

Quote

Weiss: We always wanted to do it and we didn’t know if we’d be able to pull it off. I mean, it’s a massive battle and it’s a naval battle and involves so much visual effects. And at the last minute due to a personal emergency the director had to drop out. So we were left without a director and about a week before.
Benioff: We were scrambling. We were like going over the list of who is available. And most of it was really terrifying. And then on that list Neil Marshall’s name pops out. He did Centurion and Dog Soldiers, movies where the guy’s doing an incredible amount of really intensive, impressive action on a thin budget. He had never seen [Thrones] before. We had to give him a crash course. But he’s such a fast learner and so enthusiastic and just fell in love with it and ended up being a great choice.
Weiss: He was a kid with the giant crayon box with the sharpener on the side. He got to play with all these amazing toys and built this amazing 80-foot high battle set out in the middle of this quarry, with fully functional castle walls and gates and everything. He was throwing stuff in instead of taking stuff out.

Bit of cop-out, staging it at night... But as long as they keep the wildfire plan from the book, they will pull it off nicely.

Btw, is that Stannis is just a random character who says 'come with me and take this city?' I can't see it. I hope it's the latter. That speech is about as inspiring as 'well, we're all going to die, especially the sailors, but at least it'll be for a good cause!'

Reading that article, I really appreciate they didn't just skip it though - I probably would've lost all faith in the show if they stuck with the original plan of avoiding all the action. Once is enough.

Oh, that director was probably Jeremy Podeswa, who revealed he was going to be a director... and then a couple of weeks later was out, due to that personal emergency. He directed episodes of The Pacific, including "Iwo Jima" which features Basilone's death.

The night is dark, and full of terrors.

I actually like the idea of changing it to night. I don't see it as a cop-out, more of an artistic choice (imagine the green fire against the night sky), and of course there's an added bonus of all the CGI being cheaper).

For some reason, I always pictured it at night.

It looks more like Lancel to me. It was bad enough to read, I hope they won't make us watch the reinforcements arriving / fighting. Especially not Loras *barf* I'd prefer more focus on the battle before that.

Why don't you give them the money so they can have the budget to do it daytime ? :)

Why not ? It would be amazing for the non readers to think that Stannis is close to winning then out of nowhere the shit hits the fan .

Yeah. Because that's how every battle scene in every movie ever has always been done. I'm mostly concerned that the victory will seem 'heroic' while actually they outnumbered Stannis more than 4 to 1 at that point because it's likely Tywin is not going to make it to King's Landing somehow, which will not make that fact clear. Not to mention they used a cheap trick I can't see working on screen (especially 'cos we haven't seen Renly's armour). Maybe it'll go full-crackpot and have an *actual* ghost of Renly and then this would be blamed on Melisandre later... lol.

I also do not think most of the non-readers' sympathies lie with Joffry and the Lannisters.

I expect that the Lannister/Baratheon naval battle will be cut, and the naval part will consist of Stannis trying to land his army under (wild) fire from the city (this may also explain the lack of Tyrion's chain so far).  I wouldn't really mind - staging naval battles (especially ones from the corresponding time period) is really really difficult even for big-budget Hollywood.  I am ready to be pleasantly surprised, however!

I would like Lancel to get a nice awesome moment (to make up for being everyone's chew toy), and I would really like to see the scene that Dontos describes to Sansa at the end of her POV chapter - all the chivalry of Casterly Rock and Highgarden riding through a rain of ash to come to the city's relief.  I would also like to see Pod's rescue of Tyrion.

Here is a third TV promo.  I apologize for the subtitles: http://www.youtube.c...&feature=relmfu

I think it fits his character quite well - he really isn't an inspiring leader like Jaime, Ned or Robert, but a more austere commander.
