Here's the thread for all things D3.

Rules:

1. Spoilers for story should be put into spoiler tags during the first 2 weeks following release. After that, it's fair game, and people should avoid the thread if they don't want to be spoiler'd after the 2 weeks period.

2. Do NOT post your real-money Auction House listings. If you want to drum up business, use a different venue. You can talk about your successes/failures at the real-money Auction House, but you cannot post your listings or direct people to your listings. Offenders will be temp-ban'd, and repeat offenders will be perma-ban'd.

3. If you want, you can post your battletag and I will add it to the list here. Just know that we are a public forum that various search engines can index.

4. Other standard forum rules apply (no flames, no illegal activities).

When it comes to discussing inferno i think it is important to realize that up until this point no one has been really farming yellow ajd purple mobs in acts 2-4. All these solo players who have beaten diablo probably corpse ran to the bosses which are far easier. In about a week you will start seeing tons of new items that are huge upgrades and which will allow some of the "weaker" classea to start solo farming stuff post act 1. Im not ready to declare my barb underpowered till i have a better idea of end game items.

That's probably the easiest way to make your issues with the ah irrelevant - do a ladder system again, with resets.

I did like the ladder D2HC, but there is no year-long grind to 99 in D3... so the ladder to what, exactly?

I love love LOVED Diablo 1 and 2.  Many good memories, but that said, this game can go suck a duck if it thinks I'm going to pay $60 to then need permission from battle.net just to play the single-player version of it.

Relic, yes, initial wave of players corpse hopped to get to the good stuff faster.
Many of them then exploited the resplendent chests or goblins in easily spawnable locations without actually fighting any bosses (most or all of these are now fixed). This exploit running for 1-2 days gave them enough high-end gear to put out the crazy dps numbers you can now observe from DHs and Wizards. They now run Act3/4 by using combinations of skills which make them largely unkillable unless countered by very few boss mods. They also have enough DPS to actually play the game normally, e.g. kill the packs to get their valor up and legitimately get good loot.
How many of them out there - I don't know. But do a search for top end items on your region's AH and you will see the craziness people have been dumping for a few days now. Also, plenty of streams and videos are circulating (one even had the people actually streaming their chain-running the free resplendent (exploit) in Inferno).

Someone over on Reddit's /r/diablo3 made Game of Thrones-inspired banners, most of them are pretty spot on.

Was in Act 3 Hell today (lvl 57) when I noticed that one of the dudes on my friendslist was in Act 4 about to do Diablo.  Amazingly, the game let me skip Act 3 and go to Act 4, and do Diablo with him.  (I knew you could skip ahead in acts, didn't know you could skip acts.)  Anyway, I don't know what they would've done with out me.  I spent my entire time in smokescreen running around reviving everyone. ~_~  But it was still a one-shot.

Reading these threads is intimidating. I barely got installed and into the cathedral last night - I think my barb is level 3.

Ok so basically you're saying some players exploited easy chests, got lots of good items and geared themselves well (and sold the rest for nice profit), now these few players are slightly ahead of you in a game that is a week old and that means your class is underpowered and needs to be buffed or else it's no good!

Disregard my poorly conveyed sarcasm tho; we've finally managed to hit the nail on the head. I've been wondering the entire few pages of the last thread, where is the data about these paragons of Inferno coming from. I consider myself fairly up-to-date with current D3 events, yet I had no knowledge anyone is farming acts 3 & 4. Turns out it's a bunch of people exploiting chests. Well they may have gotten good items and had their fun, but that doesn't mean they have beaten these acts, let alone have them on farm status.

The entire discussion about Inferno seemed quite odd to me for a while, for I am playing one of the so-called OP classes and I play with WD, another of them easy, ranged classes who farm Inferno. Both of us are pretty good players, we play with enormous diligence and patience and we still get pwned on most champion packs, even those we manage to kill. And this is act 2 still. Make no mistake - most wizards, DHs and WDs are nowhere near farming Inferno. They are probably farming the 3 crypts in Cemetery of the Forsaken and rehosting every time they get a geist champion pack, cuz those bastards are too fast to kite ...

It can be simply a season, just like it was in D2. You didn't have to have a ladder for HC only. You can do it based on achievements; that's probably the best way to 'win' each season if you wanted to go that way. or highest damage on a character. Lots of different ways to do it.

I'm right there with you. I've been sneaking time on my stepson's account, but I've only got in about an hour and a half of playtime. My Witch Doctor is 7th level.

The other thing you're missing is that barbs are essentially unplayable in inferno without grouping, and monks aren't that far behind.
But hey, I'm sure that the game is exactly perfect because it happens to coincide with what you want to do and what you're actually doing. No coincidence there!

It's funny, because this is now the third time I've brought this up and you've yet to respond. It's not about farming act 3 and 4. It's about being able to do anything past early Act 1. And more importantly, it's I think about the notion that in order to play Diablo at harder difficulties you must group up, something that I think a lot of people don't want to do.

Honestly, it's fucking inferno. At that point, if the only way to beat the game was to put a bucket on your head and pray to God, it would be acceptable. It's harder than harder than hard. If you're not using every trick in the toolbox (and that includes bringing other people) you deserve to lose.

When one of the tricks in the toolbox is "don't bother grouping with a Barb or a Monk on Inferno", you've got a bit of a problem though.

Well, it's a melee class in a simple engine in an area that's intended to be monstrously difficult but isn't overly complex.  Sorry to say but this comes with the territory, and there probably isn't a great way to "balance" it.  It's the case with any game of this sort, including MMO's.  Some classes just work solo, some don't.

People are only "succeeding" in Inferno insofar as they're able to embrace the idea of being a 1-or-2-shot Glass Cannon, and mitigate against receiving that damage, which simply isn't possible when your job description for dealing damage requires you to be at such a range where they can hit back.  Basically, for Inferno to be as difficult as it is, they have to make it such that nobody can simultaneously tank damage and deal enough damage to kill the tougher mobs.  It's possible for ranged classes to do this because they can replace "tanking" with "avoidance", while melee classes simply can't.

And even if it becomes possible as builds get more optimized, building up to that level of hp / defense / resists will almost certainly mean sacrificing large sums of dps so that you can't kill the mobs in any expedient fashion.  That makes them utterly useless for solo (and, frankly, they are likely to remain as such) but as the game matures a bit could prove invaluable in more traditional tank-and-spank setups.

Anyone knows what boosts mana regen? Max mana and straight-up mana regen only? Or are there other stats that help?

Nothing indirectly. It's not like wow was where mana regen was tied to the size of your mana pool or anything like that. I think that there are things that boost it specifically for the WD and for the wizard that are affixes. And of those, I think none increase the regen rate, they just give a flat value (like +2 arcane power on crit) or something like that.

Unfortunately, it's something you have to get used to.

I'm around level 34 as a monk, Act 2 Nightmare.

I thought I played the game a lot since release, but seriously, there are people out there that I question have even slept.

People maxed out level 60's, soloing and farming in Act 2-4 Inferno. It defies belief how much some have played already!

Still, I'm not stopping anytime. I'm in Australia and the ping is pretty average but I have not had any significant issues since launch delays/maintenance.

If the servers are down, back to my new assassin for a while in D2LoD! :cool4:
