[Night Gathers]

So I watched this interview http://www.youtube.c...h?v=VshOC9l29tQ with Liam Cunningham from Thronecast. Between 0.45 and 1.05 they talk about the fact that Cunningham was actually supposed to play another character, but the timing was an issue. He then got in touch with D&D again a year later and they had the role Davos Seaworth for him.

Who do you reckon he was supposed to play? To me it seems he was D&D's first choice for a role, but he couldn't make it at the time.

Anyway, he was indeed the perfect choice for Davos.

I could see him having auditioned for Robert, Jorah, Rodrik, maybe even Ned (we have heard that though they approached Sean Bean immediately, they interviewed others just in case he said no).  I hope the info leaks out eventually; I've been curious for a while now.  If I had to bet, though, I'd say Jorah.

I didn't pick this up, guess that rules out Ned if it's true and maybe some of the others.  In any case, I'm glad he's who he is, for sure.

I can't really picture him as Jorah. It wouldn't look right, him looking a lot older than Iain Glen, who is the perfect Jorah in my mind. I think maybe he might have tried for Barristan, perhaps?

My boyfriend and I were debating this the other day, because he things Liam Cunningham would have made a great Jorah, and I think he looks too old. But he's the same age and height as Iain Glen, and upon further study, I think that if he died his hair black it might work.

But I love Iain Glen. And so I'm glad Cunningham got Davos.

I could see him as Barristan Selmy, Jeor Mormont, or Tywin Lannister from last year. And from this season I think he would have made an excellent Stannis Baratheon. He is actually closer to how I envisioned Stannis while Davos I pictured little darker and rougher. More like an older version of the actor playing Bronn.

I think it's Jorah too, though I think the guy is amazing and would have excelled at any character, except for maybe Cersei or Theon or something.

Since Davos has a pretty big role the upcoming seasons, D&D's first choice for him must have been a character with equal or more screen time. I'm thinking Jorah as well as many of you have said, if he dyed his hair and beard.

I agree it was probably for Ser Jorah Mormont, since aside from the gray, he does look more how Ser Jorah is described in the books (he is definitly more bear like than Ian Glen, but IG is totally owning the role ).

Personally, I think that Cunningham and Dillane should have been reversed in their casting. Would have needed to get rid of Cunningham's grey hair, but I think he looks more Baratheon than Dillane. And I think Dillane would have made a great Davos.

I disagree. Stannis is described as gaunt in the books. Liam Cunningham isn't very gaunt. Dillane is. Also, Cunningham looks quite a bit older than he really is, which would make him look older than Robert. Dillane looks younger than Mark Addy. Also, Dillane is very black of hair.

No way , there are better the way they are . I don't know why people keep sugesting this stupid thing .

Liam really adds humour to the character of Davos, which is a nice twist because for all the good you can say about him (love Davos, really, that such a plain guy can be such a great character is class A writing) joking around isn't really his thing in the books. They needed to make him sympathetic in a quicker, easier way and have an immediately likable character around Stannis, which Liam Cunningham perfectly achieved, so it's kinda difficult to think of him as anything else than Davos. I could imagine him as a grittier, more sinister version of Bronn. Bronn has been done well but I always read Bronn's humour as dark and sinister, like his jokes are meant to be funny but most of all show how dangerous he is, rather than the careless humour he displays on the show. I like Show Bronn immensely so it's no big deal but I could see Liam Cunningham managing such a portrayal.
