[Book Spoilers] Nitpick without repercussion!

I have to DVR and watch later, but I wanted to go ahead and submit this thread. I genuinely hope this episode is 100% perfect and there is nothing to nitpick at.

Typical rules:

Forum rules - no nitpicking actress' faces, body, physical appearance, etc., or making skeevy remarks regarding sex scenes. Also, please don't talk about physically harming the writers of the show or wish terrible things upon them.

And for the good of the thread, this is a place where people are free to vent about whatever they want, so no getting angry at someone for being too fanatical or a book purist. And a lot (most) of the posters on this thread aren't those, they just have issues with parts of the show because we love the books. Feel free to debate the accuracy of someone's nitpick (for example, responding to - "I am so pissed that they have never shown Beric Dondarrion!!!!")...just be nice :D

Hope it's good. Family gatherings. Sigh.

This was obviously the best episode of the series so far. The wildfire explosion sent shivers up my spine. This was probably the most loyal to the book series out of all episodes this season. I'm interested to see what they will do with Tyrion's injury, it looks like he will get to keep his nose and he will simply be left with a gashing scar, but we'll have to see.

I really have no major complaints. No other TV series has done a battle scene this large in scale, and even Rome with its $100 million budget didn't attempt anything like this.

Overall, epic.

The highlight for me was watching the wildfire explosion -- the blooming green fire, the ships splintering, the screams, and the faces of Tyrion, Joffrey and the Hound bathed in green light with shock on their faces as the pyromancer cackled. Absolutely fantastic.

The only things that jumped out at me were, 1) I didn't get the sense that Stannis' military was that massive, and I was confused by Stannis himself not only taking the ladder up, but being the first guy up without any protection. And, 2) the ending felt a little rushed.

I have no qualms with the economical storytelling that put Tywin in Harrenhal for all those episodes, and given that plot deviation it really wasn't surprising that Tywin and Loras appeared together striding into the throne room. I'm sure for TV-only viewers, it makes things a lot more understandable to see those two, and to see the lion banners among the forces that turned the tide.

Lots to get to next episode...I'm looking forward to the House of the Undying.

With the way Davos flew 20 yards from the explosion, how the hell are they gonna expect people to believe he survived all that? Was a bit excessive imo.

Wondering about that too. I think it's possible they may kill him off, but I hope that's not the case.

This episode was fantastic. As a purist, this is the first time I could say that this season. The only real chnages I noticed were with Shae being with Sansa, but that's because of the changes D&D made. GRRM had to work with it. I didn't like how small the room was with Cersei, Sansa, and all the women. I thought it was a giant keep where no one could overhear everything Cersei says.

Oh, and Stannis should wear a helmet.

The Hound didn't make Sansa sing for him.

But I guess that's minor.

Since the show writers took out the conversation where he says he'll have a song from her eventually, I guess it would be awkward to put it in now.

Wow, I must be the only person who had serious problems with this episode:

The Hound's "resignation" - was Joffrey seriously about to cry or was there some another reason he did not have the other KG's "fire" the Hound rather than let him him resign? This is the same king who set the KG on Boros for daring to be late, drunk and a buffoon at a tournament when the season started, but the guy who deserts AND says fuck the king gets to retire. Ok.

No-helmet-wearing-Stannis dodges flaming arrows and scales the walls first? He became a BAMF in one episode. Wow.

Cersei actually contemplated an act that would have hurt Tommen, absent making sure Sansa lost her head first. Better yet, Ilyn, despite supposed orders lets the little dove fly back to her room. I give up.

Not enough helms. The Hound at least could have worn his without it confusing us.

Dinklage got to keep his nose. Surely Hair and Makeup could have managed? Or CGI? Or he could have taken one for the team.

Sansa not going with Sandor. Sure that might have messed up the plots a little but that would be OK with me.

WHo says he survived? Although I will be most displeased just for the Manderly negotiations.
