Isn't Daario whimsical, witty and crazy unpredictable (that makes him charming)?

No, not really. Like, at all.

I like Daario-he's very much like Bronn, only he actually cares about Dany. He's a good fighter, unafraid to take risks, shrewd and not afraid to tell Dany that she's screwing up.

I imagine DN looking like the Tampa Bay Bucs old logo . . .  I described him as a mix between Jack Sparrow and someone else, I can't forget who.

Maybe Michael Madsen in "Reservoir Dogs?"  it's someone on this website. LOL.

I didn't like the fact he wanted to kill Ser Jorah .   . . that turned me off to him.

As a fan of both Jack Sparrow and punk rock, I just want to say...no.

I guess when I was 15 I might have found Daario acceptable. I should probably be less mad at Dany. The 15 year old me is like, *meh*, but the 24-year old me is like, "OMG STOP IT. STOP IT RIGHT NOW."

Daario Naharis is the man.  He cut the heads off the other 2 captains and the Stormcrows still followed him, that would not have happened if he was an idiot or if his swagger was all just for show.  Everytime he rides out with the Stormcrows he always gains more men then he loses and he gets the job done.

I admit I don't like the way that Dany swoons over him, but that is a complaint against Dany not against Daario.  I mean people don't hate on Tyrion because Cersei thinks he's hiding in the walls now do they.

For me I hate him and the reason that his face looks like my country's flag is only half the reason. He's just another sellsword filled with a duty of self-serving. And no, I'm not sure he cares all that much for Daenerys as a person so that won't get to me.

I agree. Cut the loosers behind in the dirt where they belong. They can do the world a favor and die there for all I care or at least have the good sense of sticking to their own kind and not pollute their betters' lives. (a slight hint of irony, to bad there isn't any "irony-smily")

That's just how sellswords are with names, look at Quentyn's time spent with the Windblown and the nicknames that the Golden Company have for each other.  If anything Daario giving Barristan a nickname is a sign of respect.  There's nothing really offensive or mocking about the nickname Ser Grandfather.

No, I think he was mocking him.  These are from Barristan's POV.

Quote

I am become old and slow.  Small wonder that Naharis mocked him as Ser Grandfather.
-pg. 733

Quote

Daario calls you Ser Grandfather," Skahaz reminded him.  "I will not say what he calls me.  If you and I were hostages would he risk his skin for us?"
- pg. 875

Maybe I'm wrong and he does mean those names affectionately, but the recipients of his mocking humor obviously don't seem to think so.  Poor Daario, just so misunderstood

Even Dany acknowledges that he is arrogant, vain and cruel (read asshole), not the kind of guy who respects anyone.  Yet that seems to be what attracts her to him, whatever floats her boat I guess.

Well of course old stick-in-the-mud Barristan Selmy thinks that he's being mocked, the guy has no sense of humor.

I don't see anything mocking about the name Ser Grandfather and I certainly don't think that Daario believes Selmy is weak or feeble.  Daario is a good fighter, he can size up a man and tell another fighter when he sees one and every description of Selmy talks about how straight his back is and how strong he looks.

Whimsical and witty? Are we talking about the same guy here?
Yeah, he is crazy unpredictable, like most psychopaths. And you said it yourself: crazy unpredictable.

I missed all the scenes in The Pirates of the Carribean movie where Jack Sparrow actually got play.  The only time the guy was kissed he was handcuffed to his ship to die.  Soo...yeah I guess they're similar.

Also, I'm pretty sure everyone hates Jack Sparrow in that universe.  He's been mutinied a few times by his own crew and left for dead!

That's not really how sellswords behave in court though. It's not really how anybody does. Quentyn's entourage give each other nicknames because they're with fellow sellswords and men at arms. That stuff is fine in the barracks, it's not fine in open court.

Notice how Bronn and Ben Plumm don't interrupt at court with "HEY GUYS I JUST THOUGHT OF ANOTHER FUNNY NAME FOR THIS GUY WHILE YOUR TRYING TO CONDUCT IMPORTANT BUSINESS THAT'S COMPLETELY OVER MY HEAD."

So when Barristan is trying to advise Dany, or when Quentyn is proposing the single biggest opportunity Dany has had yet to invade Westeros, it might be a good idea for someone to gently tell Daario he's very funny (he's a knight, and he's old! Ser Grandfather! Get it? Because he's old? Genius) but that the grown ups are talking.

That's exactly why Daario is awesome.  Also their business is not "over his head" he just doesn't care.

All I'm saying is that Daario deserves some respect.  You don't become the captain of a sellsword company (and keep the allegiance of the men despite killing the other 2 captains) by being the ignorant obnoxious moron that the haters seem to think he is.
