I was thinking the other day how cool it would be if I was able to jump into the story and be a knight. This got me to thinking about which knight I would want to squire for. So here is how this will work:

Lets say hypothetically you are a young lad living in Westeros and you are from a noble family. Your goal in life is to become a great knight but you have to start off as a squire. If any knight was available to you to squire for, who would you choose? They can be alive or dead. I just want to see what most people would choose.

I would personally choose Aemon the Dragonknight.

Best answer IMO; honestly I don't think it's even that close of a competition. If we limit it to living people; I think Brienne would be good. She would probably give her life defending you if necessary, I'd need that.

Well, the home of chivalry is the Reach, so, someone from there.... one of the Tyrell brothers would be cool, because they are good men, although probably not Loras because I would have to go into a lot of battles with him :).

Hard to choose. Jaime Lannister would do, after a Storm of Swords at least.
Garlan would be fine too, I really like him and he is not like that arrogant brother of his, Loras, while he's probably even better than Loras in fighting. More honorable too.

Garlan Tyrell, any of the knights of Aerys II Kingsguard except Jaime (who wants to be a 16-year-old's squire?), Oberyn Martell.

To the Old Bear.. errr... I mean Lord Mormont.
Tyrion would be fun too, but I would feel bad to take him away from poor Pod, he does a great job.
Barristan Selmy or Brienne would be nice as well.

My first choice would be Stannis.

If that doesn't work out, I would squire for Ser Artur Dayne.

Arthur Dayne seems a bit stressful, like his standards would be super high, and even if he never said anything to you, you would feel like you were never quite good enough.

Jaime seems like he would be fun - he treats Peck, Little Lew, and Garrett very well, as far as we can tell (with the caveat that he'd have to kill the latter two if their fathers misbehave, but I'm sure MY father would never risk getting me killed, so no worries there).

Brienne and Pod are too cute, but I think Brienne is a bit serious for me to spend that much time with, much as I love her in the novels.

I can't squire for Loras, I would have a huge crush on him and not get that he was gay.  It would be Brienne/Renly 2.0.

if  my entire goal is to be a great knight myself, I would have to say either Arthur Dayne or the Dragonknight.
