[Book Spoilers] Ros/Varys business deal

So what the hell is this about? What could Varys possibly want from Ros? Apparently she's a big enough idiot to think he wants her tits, but I guess she's so smart and brilliant that Varys sees something else deep within her. Apparently, she's some kind of special business guru. Who knew? Thoughts?

Maybe he wants her to distrakt Cersei and Tywin from Shae so he can proof Tyrion he is his friend, or spy on LF, who knows. D&D only want that Ros doing something next season

Oh, and did Ros seriously not know Varys was a eunuch?

she didn't know who he was until she notice his lack of a cock

The stupid thing here is that Ros did not turn out to be in Varys's employ all along! This would have been a rather interesting twist and would have explained why she was with so many important people in the first season (Tyrion, Theon, Littlefinger, Pycelle).

No idea what Varys wants with Ros now, but it's evident that they are intending to prepare us for some kind of Littlefinger-Varys-bitch-war in season 3. Remember Varys's face when Littlefinger was made Lord of Harrenhal?

I don't have high hopes on that one, since it has much potential to suck completely. They will certainly enhance Varys's role in seasons 3 & 4. Varys has a very low profile in ASoS, so there will be much invented stuff I guess. On the other hand, they will have time enough to give us some of his back story (the cutting), and something about his modus operandi, and possibly his motivations.

And as soon as Littlefinger leaves for the Vale, the chance for direct clash between these two is gone, at least for the near future.

By the way: Has anyone noticed that show Shae is possibly even more Varys's creature than book Shae ever was? Shae's whole suggestion about going to Pentos with Tyrion was an attempt to recruit him to Aegon's/Dany's directly after the battle.

And I'm quite sure that the revelation about Ser Mandon Moore was a lie as well, to convince Tyrion to forsake his family. Given the non-subtle-approaches of the show we can expect some more mischief on that field. I can see Varys opening Tyrion the bedchamber door when he kills Tywin and Shae ;-).

This is an invented scene, but I think a very useful one. One of the themes from the book was the behind the scenes duel between Littlefinger and Varys for power/influence. Ros, essentially, shows that battle in microcosm. Varys is trying to steal one of Littlefinger's informants/allies to add her to his own web, and you can see how such machinations would be played out with other "birds" as well. The scene was a way to draw attention to that ongoing chess match, and I think it worked.

What was the point of setting up this arrangement though? Is Varys going to interfere with LF's plan to take away Sansa? No. Is he going to stop LF from marrying Lysa? No. What is Varys going to actually do with any info Ros might give him? Why, plot wise, are they bothering to set this up?

Once LF is in the Vale, Ros will be (even more) useless I think...

Even if she has to relocate, she'll be the single whore somewhere else, I'm sure.

Yeah, but the arrangement is contingent upon her being close to LF. Do you mean she would relocate with him?

Oh gods, I don't even want to imagine what contrived reason the show makers will have to make up to get LF to take her with him to the Vale :ack:

Yeah. She'll be the Vale's only whore. I can already see it all coming together now....lovely.

Maybe he'll make her Sansa's handmaiden. From Shae to Ros, trading one whore for another. What wonderful company they would be keeping Sansa in, lol.

I have a feeling he'll send her off to Dany alongside Barristan. She'll be the replacement goldfish for Doreah, and sex Dany up when the time comes for her... experimentation. Maybe.

LOL. Wow. And I can actually see that happening, that's the sad part.

It's still less terrible than her becoming Jeyne Poole.

I actually can't think of any other major whores or characters suitable for pointless sexposition in Storm or Feast aside from... well, Shae. Keeping Ros around for some "original" plot feels more like Dave and Dan rewarding their pet favourite for her good "service."

Why would Varys even need someone to spy on Littlefinger? You just have to make sure that you stand within 25 meters of LF every now and then and you will hear him speak openly about his plans to rescue Sansa, hear him make threats against Cersei, or discuss his gameplan with 2 random prostitutes while they are going at it in bed
