the thought that went through my mind when I watched that scene and the Other unleashed his war cry was: don't kill the fat man, he'll only slow us down

Your team is only as strong as its weakest link...LOL.

Maybe the army we saw in the last episode is the "good" Others and wights.

They dont kill him because he said his vow/oath in front of a heart tree. Hes protected, the others have a pact with the trees. Whites are free to do so tho.

Will didn't escape, Gared did. He had no ears and Bran makes note of it during his first beheading. The show had "Will" escape, but they didn't give names, and that actor best fit Will's description.
Sam will probably sit and let them pass, then run like the craven he is.
