[Book Spoilers] Which is a White Walker?

In Season 1 Episode 1, we were supposedly introduced to a WW north of the wall. The first beheading was of the Night Watch squad leader by a giant-ish guy, witnessed by the other Night Watcher. The latter subsequently deserted the Night Watch, and claimed in a final statement to have seen a WW. (He then became the second beheading by Ned Stark, himself heading for a beheading.) And we were supposed to believe him. In Season 2 Episode 10, we hear three horn blasts, and see these funky white-rabbit-like dudes on horseback. Which of either of these is a WW: the giant-ish guy in Season 1 or the white-rabbit-like dudes on horseback....or neither?

Both.

Compare - glimpses of Gollum in Moria in the Fellowship movie compared to the final version we had for the next two movies.

The producers/directors have refined their ideas for how the White Walkers should look since they started shooting season 1. Plus, they have larger budgets now.

Exactly, they were able to better realize what they had in mind for the White Walkers in the S2 finale, whereas in S1Ep1, they were just giving us a hint of what's to come.

Hunh? Completely different conceptions of the beast 1 year apart, from the same producers? One a man-like giant and the other a different species? Where are you getting this info? The differences between Gollum Fellowship and Gollum Two Towers pale (green) in comparison. And this didn't bother viewers? Or they didn't remember way back a year ago to the pivotal introduction of this pivotal plot point? Its beyond belief.

That's the image of the "White Walker" from episode 1. Hardly a drastic re-imagining.

That must be the alternate version of GoT. The one who beheaded the Night Watch squad leader looked like a kind of John Matousak in Caveman.

No that is a screenshot of the only close up of the White Walker that was shown in episode 1 of GOT. Go back, watch the episode and press pause.

The above White Walker, standing in the shadows.

You should probably go back and rewatch the episode BEFORE throwing a hissy fit.

I have watched it in blu-ray and the image is a lot better than your lame jpegs. The beheading WW looks completely different in features and size.

If your definition of "completely" corresponds to the rest of English speakers' definition of "very slightly", then maybe.

You carry on torturing yourself and throwing your toys out of the pram about non-existent nitpicks.

It's also important to remember that White Walkers are said to have chameleonesque colour changing abilities and this is the only time we've seen them during the day. It's possible they use a form of camoflauge at night and duing the day to stay hidden.

And they also change size from being smaller non-human species easily fitting on horseback to being over-sized human-like creatures? It must be comforting to have low-resolution visual and mental abilities. They must keep one from noticing things in the enviroment. Its a calming influence no doubt, until you run up againt a bear that you thought was a cute little white rabbit.

Speaking in terms of show continuity, maybe White Walkers are as eclectic-looking as their human counterparts and have a variety of different appearances.

I don't think it's a big deal. We're talking about pilot-to-season 2 finale here. Obviously, the budget is larger and the stakes are bigger...they have room to do more with their visuals. Why confine yourself to a more primitive design of White Walker when you now have the means to create something more visually impressive?

I still see the same trait, which appear to be the deep creases in the skin.

He mad.
