I'd go with the Mance Rayder option.
humour, music, part he can get his teeth into, some physical, but not too much.

Like others though, I suspect he might want a break from TV for a while (though he may well consider a minor character to BE a break).
As for the cash side of things, he's no longer a top paid actor, he's an out-of-work actor. He's also got a history of chosing based on quality of script, rather than the pay packet; and he's certainly rich enough now to be as picky as he wants; so not completely unrealistic.

Him as Mance would be amazing. I can picture him in some very funny, unique scenes.

Oooooh. . . .there's a thought.  The Blackfish always struck me as very cynical.  And HL would be fine, he's one of the older characters and they've all been aged up anyway.

well since Mr. Irons is the Borgia Pope on showtime there is no way he is an option...and unless any of these bigger stars (i love Hugh and House to death) are a crazy obsessed fan of the books and just want "in" on the show...

has Hugh ever mentioned liking GOT? or ASOFAI?

Charlize Theron mentioned liking GOT and look at all of the posts trying to squeeze her into a role.

Plus, the writers have shown they are willing to cast characters that "look" different from their descriptions in the book...

Victarion?

God no.  As a Brit, this Hugh Laurie is a bumbling toff, not a hard experienced fighter.

Also, I'm seeing Stephen Fry as Qyburn more than I'm seeing Laurie as him.  This show does need Stephen Fry as... someone though.
