Who Lives, Who Dies? (Possible Spoilers)

Recommended Posts

I thought there was an interesting line in the show that I do not remember from the book. Can someone confirm if it was in the book or not? Varys is talking to Ros about LF (obviously he does not talk to Ros in the books, but maybe he said this to someone else?), and he says something like "he doesn't hide his weakness as well as he believes." It's left unsaid what that is, but I suspect it's a reference to Sansa. Makes me wonder what Dave and Dan know.

I don't think Sansa is the weakness that Varys is referring to. He openly stated his love for Catelyn Tully when Eddard first reaches the small council in both book 1 and season 1, so I feel that can't be what Varys thinks LF is hiding. I think it's LF's disdain for the people that belittle him (and thusly causes his overzealous lust for power) that will either cause him to slip up or will eventually be exploited by someone.

I like the idea that Jamie is enlisted by the BWB to go to the Twins and "escort" the prisoners held to Kings Landing, thus freeing the Greatjon to return to the north. But I wont be surprised if the BWB strings him up as soon as Brienne brings him around.

As far as deaths: Theon is done, Ramsay is done, Roose is done, Jojen, maybe Stannis, Stoneheart, Cresei will die later, not yet.

  • 11 months later...

The Body count will be high, astronomical north of the Neck.

Ser Jamie must survive long enough to kill Cersei. The whole younger brother will kill Cersei thing to me clearly means that Jamie will kill her (they've set it up so much especially with the fact that they made it so well known that Jamie was born after Cersei.

live: Jon and Dany

So die:

Tommen Baratheon

Mellisandre and or Selyse

One or both Boltons

Either Mormont or the Onion Knight

Multiple Greyjoys

Myrcella Baratheon

Brienne of Tarth

Most of the Night's Watch

Why does everyone think Theon is dead? When it comes to the ironborn he is the most developed. Not saying he will live the entire series but I don't see him dying until the last book.

I agree. I think Theon will die by killing Ramsay or Roose or sacrificing himself while protecting a Stark

Maybe, but that Stark would have to be Rickon. I see him of redeeming himself by scaling over the wall of Winterfell just like he did when he first took it. It would mean risking himself to a fate worse than death if he failed, and be a good arc of redemption. I still don't like him, but it would redeem him.

Ramsey, Theon, selyse,Shireen, jojen(if he was not in the red drink that the children gave bran)All the queen's men left at the wall, and most of the nightswatchmen and wildings, Robin, some of the tyrells at KL(probably Grandma, Varys will not want them having too much power or efficiency now that the Lions have been neutered)Myrcella or tommen or both. All likely to go in book 6

One person that will definately die is the last person you would expect, as in the other books

I would like to see the back of uncat and ungregor, daario, any of the meereenese apart from Barristan's squires.

I think that the iron born are going to have some of the most interesting storylines in the next book, so they will probably make it to the last. Little finger at Sansa's hand is possible, unless he uses her to off Robin and drops her in it/ becomes her lover( she is said to have some 'disturbing' chapters coming up)

Cersei has to suffer some more and is not likely to go before her kids, although the Golden shrouds part of the frog's prophecy was not time specific IIRC, I think that they are destined to go first

Can't make up my mind if John is permanently dead, most likely not. The remaining starks, Dany and most of her retinue, and of course tyrion will make it to the last book. I hope that Jamie and brienne last to the last, along with Samwell and Gendry. Not all that bothered about the rest, apart from the Freys and Boltons. Not really bothered when they go as long as it is drawn out and gruesome. It would be good to have Mace facing a host of others as an epilogue POV wishing he had let Sam tell him what he had learnt about killing them as his final thought. Not even feeling the first icy sword, just the cold.

Definitely dead:

- Davos Seaworth, Rickon Stark (I don't believe the name of his wolf is coincidence - him and Davos are making a big Shaggy Dog story, ending in a slaughter)

- Margaery Tyrell, Tommen Baratheon (Marg found guilty and executed by the Faith, Tommen poisoned by Varys or Tyene Sand. Cue the Tyrells leaving KL and Cersei paranoid and alone with her only remaining child, Queen Myrcella)

- Asha Greyjoy (killed during the Battle of Winterfell - there's no need for a second POV there, and Theon's shatted mental state is just more interesting to read about).

- Jon Connington (with Arianne heading there, we don't need his POV, and his illness and death could humanise Aegon a lot)

- Victarion Greyjoy (I think he's been set up to be majorly duped by Euron; that dragon horn is not going to work out for him like he thinks)

- Barristan Selmy (Dies during the Battle of Meereen. Tyrion's arrival makes him doubly useless, as both a POV and an advisor/fountain of knowledge on all things Westeros to Daenerys)

- Aeron Greyjoy, Areo Hotah (why do they even exist?)

- Ramsay Bolton, Roose Bolton (They need to lose Winterfell for the plot to move forward, and I don't see what purpose they could serve elsewhere)

- Littlefinger (Killed by Sansa. As others have said, her character arc is all building towards it, and it needs to happen fairly soon to allow her to become a full player in her own right)

I'm on the fence about:

- Brienne. On one hand, we're running into the double-POV problem again. But I love her and really want to see her make it to the end. I can see her being killed by the Brotherhood during the Red Wedding 2.0 at Riverrun. My heart says lives but my head says dies.

- Jaquen. Who the fuck knows what Jaquen's doing.

So, significant characters alive at the end of WoW;

At/Beyond the Wall:

- Jon Snow, Melisandre, Selyse & Shireen Baratheon

- Bran Stark, Meera Reed, Bloodraven

At Winterfell:

- Stannis Baratheon, Theon Greyjoy

At the Eyrie:

- Sansa Stark, Robin Arryn, Sandor Clegane

In King's Landing:

- Cersei Lannister, Myrcella Baratheon

- Varys

At Storm's End:

- Aegon Targaryen, Arianne Martell

In Oldtown:

- Samwell Tarly, Gilly, "Alleras" Sand, Jaquen H'gar(?)

In Pentos (or somewhere in the near East, ready to land in Westeros soon)

- Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister

Elsewhere (I just don't know for these guys):

- Arya Stark

- Euron Greyjoy

- Jaime Lannister, Brienne of Tarth(?)

If it is one of the starks that finally gets rid of Cat, who was irritating enough the first time round, I think it more likely to be arya, she is the only one stonehearted enough.

Ah but to do that wouldn't require a stoneheart but one that was full of love, I see it as an act of mercy, either through Sansa's love for her mother or Jon's love for Ned and his siblings, Arya has forgotten how to love at present (I think she'll remember before the end)

Catelyn will die, but at the hands of Brienne, saving Jaime. Lem and Anguy will probably get theirs as well at the hands of Brienne and Jaime. Jaime won't die, GRRM hasn't been developing him using his left hand for nothing.

Stannis will take the Twins and kill the rest of the Freys in front of Walder, one-by-one, before cutting his throat and throwing him in the river. Stannis will get in by sparing Hosteen Frey and raising Frey and Bolton banners, he may or may not wear the armor and pale pink cloak of Roose Bolton. Manderly will take his ships and attack King's Landing

The Lannisters and Emmon Frey will get wind and lay siege to the Twins, Justin Massey and the Tattered Prince will lift the siege just as all looks lost, Emmon will die. Stannis will rush south to KL just after Aegon has taken the throne under cover of night. The people will rush to Aegon's defense, as well as the full compliment of the Dornish army as he is hastily and secretly married to Arianne.

Meanwhile, Victarion wipes out the Yunkish and is devoured by Dragons for his trouble, after his horn is used incorrectly. The Ironborn will swear fealty to Dany and carry her army and new Khalasar to King's Landing. She lands the day that Stannis is crowned, Aegon and Arianne are dead.

That's all I got.

Most in Kings Landing will die. Revolt no governship

Most in North will die. No commander on the wall, Stannis army was dead already lord Suet was clever but so is the Leech, mindless Wildlings, Undead on approach I doubt the runes hold

75%

Excluding Bran and certain others I see killing feilds

Inbetween is speculative don't really want to bet the odds

Barristan unlikely to live

Victarion unlikely to live

Hizdahr zo Loraq unlikely to live

I just can't see Ramsay getting killed before the last book. The overall arch of almost all of the characters has been a moral relativism. We have found compasion in the 'evil' characters, and flaws in the 'good.' Ramsay is the exception. He is just pure, absolute, evil. We came to somewhat understand why, but there is certainly no compasion for him. He is the purest villain in a series filled with them.

He has to die near the end.

I think:

Death:

- Jon - He actually is dead, his death frees up the LC for Stannis to take the black and become the next LC.

- Barristan

- Hizdahr zo Loraq

- Loras Tyrell - finds something significant out at Dragonstone, possibly the prologue chapter a dying Loras revealing something important to come.

- Cersei - Her valonquar will turn out to be the Faith's champion in her trial, he'll unmask whatever Ser Robert is and kill it, results will doom both Cersei and Qyburn unexpectedly. I think Cersei's contribution is up, we've seen into her madness go past the brink and she isn't really a redeemable character. I reckon she'll go to the block kicking and screaming and get an execution POV furiously thinking why she's ended up sharing Ned's fate despite doing everything he didn't. Lannisters lose complete control of the throne.

- Jorah Mormont - Will try and win Dany's favour over again only to be overshadowed by Vic defeating the Yunkish and executed by Dany for returning, provides a nice GRRM-worthy shock over there.

- Ser Robert Strong

- Qyburn

- UnCat - Mercy killing by Brienne to free Pod and Jaime.

- Ramsay Bolton - I think he's served his role to be the agent of change behind Theon's redemption arc, Roose will ultimately show just how cold he is by betraying Ramsay to save himself and flee after defeat to Stannis at Winterfell. Theon won't get his revenge, but readers will get some satisfaction probably from Melis consigning him to the flames.

- Some more Freys, but not Walder who I think GRRM will save something special for in ADoS.

- Jojen Reed

- Jon Connington - Defeated by Tyrells and Faith Militant at KL, but leaves Tyrells exhausted and a spent force. Faegon escapes alive though to join up with the Martells.

Survival:

- Littlefinger - Sansa will finally turn on him but show mercy and let him free, but strip him of all titles and humiliate him ruining his plans first. I think LF as one of the main puppeteers is too big to kill off in TWOW but this outcome would leave him nicely hanging around as a loose cannon waiting to have his last throw of the dice in the game.

- Dany, at the verge of launching a surprise attack on the West with the help of Tyrion. Choses difficult route while being completely unaware of KL being a sitting duck.

- Tyrion - Joined up with Dany and made his peace over Tywin's sacking of KL, offers to become her Hand in replacement for Selmy. Heads back to Westeros early and attempts to claim Casterly Rock after hearing of Cersei's execution.

- Arya

- Sweetrobin - Will have some role in LF's downfall/Sansa realising his game by attempting to kill SR.

- Brienne

- Jaime - Ignored Cersei's pleas for help but now headed for KL to rescue Tommen from becoming a Tyrell puppet king.

- Pod

- Samwell - See the Battle of Oldtown from his POV, city sacked but Euron defeated, flees with the other maesters to Highgarden by the end of the book giving us a POV with HG.

- Roose Bolton - Shows just how ruthless he is, betrays Ramsay and leaves him to his fate, last seen fleeing to the Twins having lost control of the North to a mix of Others/NW/Stannis.

- Victarion - Barristan will be the POV who dies in Meereen, Vic I think will carry on to do something epic with Dany.

- Asha

- Theon - Can see he is going to cheat execution and escape with Asha somehow, not sure how but I think he's too bigger character to kill off now. Asha will find some way of tricking Stannis and returning to Aeron to start trying to end Euron's rule.

- Euron - Defeated in the South and fleeing back to the Iron Islands and into a trap set by Aeron/Asha/Theon left on a cliffhanger. Likewise seeking revenge on Vic for failing to steal either a dragon or Dany.

- Tommen

- Mace Tyrell

- Margaery Tyrell - Will be found innocent at her trial, Tyrells will assume total power in KL with Tommen as thier puppet and drive out the remaining Lannisters to the frustration of Varys who I think will respond by doing something to cause unrest between the Faith/Faith Militant and Tyrells in KL. Think there is a lot of potential there to set things up nicely for Faegon/Dany to return to KL to be confronted by a completely different situation than most are predicting. Tyrells to possibly defeat Faegon but be left bloodied and for the taking for Danys or the Martells to betray them and seize the IT for either side. Sets up a possible revenge arc from the Martells in ADoS that way to take advantage of the Tyrells while they're punchdrunk and almost out.
