First off, the school would have called my parents and asked for permission to give me licks which they would have gleefully provided. I would have spent a few weeks in detention, and I would have never thought about riding another bus again. I would be walking to school for the rest of the time I attended there.
Then, I would have gotten home to my parents... I probably to this day wouldn't be able to sit down, and I would still be grounded.
It is not in my character to do these things anyway, but if it was, the consequences would have been so monumental that I would have never crossed that line.

The kid whose face appears probably will have his own life ruined by this.
I don't know what ought to be done. We can't fix every problem in the world, but this viciousness directed at an elderly person is unfathomable.
ETA: If you found out, to your dismay, that your own son was this ringleader and this video aired, how would you react?
*I would like to amend this to "What children." This is not any kind of justification, but if one nasty kid takes root, they have incredible potential to mess up the other kids around them.

Recorded apology on youtube preceded by a caning while wearing a pink tutu (the son, not me. Wouldnt wanna turn BFC on that much)

This is heartbreaking. This poor woman.... my god. All I can think about is if this was my own grandmother.......(well, needless to say shit would get real for these kids)
What is disappointing, aside from such disgusting behaviour on behalf of the antagonists of the video, is that no one bothered to stand up for this woman and intervene.... (unless I'm missing something here)

I couldn't watch this past a minute and a half it was just too evil. Watching it makes me feel overwhelmed with guilt and shame because even before seeing this I've constantly thought about the time back when I was in high school and I was riding home from school on the bus and one girl who was always sweet and nice to me was kneeling over the back of her bus seat talking to someone and this kid I knew for years and knew to be one of the biggest jackasses ever said to her "Sit Ubu, sit! Good dog!" and I didn't say a thing.
What the kids did to that lady was 100x worse but I keep thinking would I have said anything. I so hope I would but I know the most likely thing is the me I was then would have just kept his mouth shut and stayed quiet, I never would have joined in but I don't know if that really could be counted as marking that big a difference between me and those rotten monsters.
I wish these kids would somehow get banned from riding the school bus...forever. Let the parents have to deal with getting them to school by arranging other transportation or making them have to walk, and the banning could also never be used as an excuse for being tardy or absent, if they miss any school they (and their parents) pay the same price as any other kid for truancy.

Too your point, I think that choosing to ignore bullys as they reign terror upon their victims is a common problem amongst kids. I know in my youth there were definitely circumstances that I wish I could have acted differently. But for something like this - something so blatantly horrible and evil - you would think that kids would recognize right from wrong. Maybe I've got my hopes up...

As an educator, I can honestly say that most students I work with would never, not in a million years, act this way towards an elderly member of the public. While no one is perfect, and there might be quiet comments made with snickers (because, let's be honest, we all make snide comments about people from time to time), none of the students I work with would stoop this low. Perhaps I still have my blinders on, but honestly, I think this was a rotten core group while most just tried to ignore it.
To be fair, I couldn't make it thirty seconds into the video. I think most people can watch this and instantly remember when they were laughed at or taunted or ridiculed as children. And yes, the worst comment is the one with "your kids should go kill themselves" after her son had already committed suicide.
This video has had me fuming for the past twenty-four hours. I sent her a facebook message expressing my solidarity, and I hope she gets to tuck a little away. Obviously, from the donations that have come in, this story struck a chord with a lot of people internationally.

Yeah I would have been in all sorts of trouble as well. I am not too much younger than you though.
We used to have an ex-army chap as a PE teacher, so after they abolished caning in my school. We had to run up the biggest frigging hill in the town every lunch time if we got in trouble, could be in pouring rain, freezing cold. Make the little feckers sweat some.
