It may be bad parenting on my part, but whenever my kids are bullied, I always point out the parent of the bully at the next open house or school carnival.  I make a point to dress well and have my make-up perfect.  Usually, once my kids do a comparison, they don't feel so bad about being bullied.

There were some mean 4th graders picking on my 3rd grader, who is autistic, getting him to have his "freak-outs" in the cafeteria.  One day while having lunch with him, as the mean kids walked by, I had him point them out.  As he did, I would say "that kid?  Well, he's really ugly, so maybe that's why he picks on you."  Or "That kid?  I saw his Mom, she smells like butt and cigarettes."  My dad was with us as well, he happened to be in town.  He just stared at them while I made comments.  They didn't bother him the rest of the year.  But, one of the kids was at the pool a few weeks ago and started calling him a "retard," so I told my son, in front of the boy, that he only knows what a "retard" is because his Mom had done so many drugs, she was basically retarded.  Then when my son swam away I called the boy a pervert for staring at my boobs and told him I was going to call the police.

Once my daughter was being harassed by some kids via the phone.  When I finally got a parent on the line, he told me that if my kid didn't toughen up, she deserved to get her "ass kicked."  I told him that if his daughter even thought of calling mine again, I would follow his pick up truck home from the bar, (I'm sure both correct assumptions), cut his face off and feed it to his family as a teaching lesson.  He threatened to call the police.  I dared him to do so.  He didn't and the calls stopped.

I feel kind of sorry for these kids family's, if you scroll down the article it says something about there family's getting hacked and having there phone numbers and links to there facebook profiles posted online.

Well I agree that the kids should be punished as much as possible, leave their family's out of it.

I'll see your Marine DI, and raise you Blackie.
In 1965 there was a Sean Connery movie, The Hill, where Harry Andrews portrayed a RSM.  What a bus monitor he'd have made.  But, in case that type is unavailable, maybe Mord would suffice.

Really nice post, even though it seems a bit on the cynical side. It is probably more pragmatic to hold these views then to believe that life is full of rainbows and sunshine. I still try to go through life expecting the best out of people for no other reason than it is far more personally fulfilling than having the mindset of expecting the worst.

One small note on karma... It is a Hindu belief that what you do in this life effects you in the next life. It is not about a person getting what is coming to them. For that, you can look at the Christian belief of reaping what you sew...

(I always point that out when I hear the word karma.)

First off, thanks for the compliment. Second, that's more or less the meaning of karma that I'm talking about. Karma theory is also not as simplified as your statement suggests (I'm sure you're aware of that), and varies considerably within different philosophical and religious institutions.

Finally, regarding cynicism, it's not so much about having a pragmatic or negative outlook on people. In fact, I consider myself the opposite (and more like you). My baseline for strangers is usually higher than that of most people, and certainly higher than neutral. It's just that in this case, I'm referring more to the way this incident became An Incident, i.e., I'm trying to say that it happens all the time and while it's nice that this lady is getting some positive vibes, people are also likely to forget about it in a couple of days because of the way it's garnered attention.

No, it isn't.  Not even close.  It actually makes me sad that someone believes that.

Today I heard on the news that one of the taunters said "your kids should commit suicide" and that this woman lost a son to suicide.

If I was a parent and found out one of these rats was my kid, he or she would lose all toys, be grounded until I stopped being p*ssed, and would be doing the following until he or she was old enough to move out of my home:
  • mowing her lawn
  • taking out her garbage
  • washing her car
  • changing her oil (one word about warranties and you live in the attic)
  • weeding her weeds (if she has none I'll plant them)
  • running any nasty, foul, dog-poop-gathering-and-removal-style task she requires

I'm waiting for some of the usual crowd to come in post something about you're only insulted if you choose to be insulted, and that people should just choose to ignore verbal insults and not the bullies win, blah blah blah.  :-p

Children nowadays ... I'm 16, and I keep getting amazed by the things around me. Unbelievable how cruel people can be to eachother. I can be an asshole myself, in a sarcastic manner, but not like this.

This is truly terrible. A realistic punishment should be suspension from the school for a period of time and banishment from the bus for the year. Maybe some letters of apology, or in person apologies. While these kids undoubtedly deserve to have their jaws broken, that shit would fly even less so than does their shenanigans.

16 ???!!!

You are way to young to be using the word asshole... Go immediately to the bathroom, and wash your mouth out with soap !!!

Actually, I wanted to compliment you on your level of maturity. I have read a number of your posts and you seem like you have a good head on your shoulders.

I can't help but think that despite the abuse this woman endured, had there been a bus accident or some other misfortune that day, she would have been the first to give assistance and/or comfort to these punks.

It's normally pretty darn tough to provoke me to anger, but I admit this nonsense has me spitting mad.

Epic. I especially like the last part.

Oh and the "kids these days" shit doesn't fly with this. I could be a little shit in my time, but I would never have disrespected anyone in such a manner. I was too afraid of what my parents would do when they found out, and I was also raised to respect my elders. I hope every single one of those kids involved gets what's coming to them, and more. Fucking spoiled, disgusting animals.

Looks like sympathetic Reddit users just raised $225,000 for her.

Could be the gift of early retirement.

Is there any young people that want to star in a new movie? It has to be shockingly real. The premise is that I sit on a bus, and you all hurl horrible insults at me...

It seems that people think money cures everything.  I would hope they'd think justice was more important, but I guess I'm wrong.
