[The Frosted King]

I made this topic for posters who share the common sentiment of the new Jaime(aka goldenhand) being not on a redemption arc, but merely a more rationale path.

So to those who agree with that view, just what would you feel has to happen before he could actually be redeemed?

I'll give my list.

1.Admit his incest, and the truth about the KL "baratheons".
2.Remove his white cloak, and withdraw to the west, taking his son with him.
3.Pledge the coffers of Casterly Rock, to the cause of rebuilding the realm.
4.Marry a bannermens daughter, and beget trueborn children on her.
5.Die an old reviled man, but able to look in the mirror and know he did the right thing.

I would rather see him take the black than just go back to the Rock. that is how people are redeemed in westeros

I believe it is sufficent that he regrets his deeds, stops the incest (he does not need to admit it, so his children don't loose their claim), keeps his white cloack and alle the vows he has spoken, forget casterly rock, as he has no claim to it anymore. Marrying is out of this as well than, and he will die in service of his king.
What good would it do to admit his deeds, he should just do better in the future, and every good thing he does makes him a better person.

I think he's done a lot already to be honest. He's been very reasonable on his terms with the old Stark loyalists, and him sending Brienne to protect Sansa Stark directly contradicting the Queen Regent's commands was a very large risk to take for the safety of a girl from a rival family who he has only ever met once or twice. To fully redeem himself... I don't know, killing Cersei would probably be enough.

If he dies a quick death as soon as possible I will be happy and he will be redeemed.

That isn't redemption, however.
That is continuing the lie, and the benefits thereof.

Countless people have died because of his actions.
Those deaths have no point, if he doesn't admit, and then make it better.

If you took someones car, crashed it into another car killing the five occupants and then fled the scene, and dropped the keys into the sewer.......would you wait until the media hoopla died down, and then just continue with your life, vowing to be better?
If so, that makes you a shitty person.

Redemption is knowing you were wrong and trying to make amends. People think Darth Vader found his redemption and he destroyed a goddamn planet. I think he's acting out alright, but he's still far from redemption.

i'm trying to figure out what book series you're reading because the one i'm reading - asoiaf - doesn't even have the good guys doing stuff like this.

The guy is a grade A asshole, and needs to be treated as such, he could save the world but that isn't going to get Bran's legs back. Nor will it make Joffrey, Marcella, and Tommen the legitimate children of Robert Baratheon... I could go on and on about his bad deeds, but it would only take a few lines to list his good deeds. Jaime is a terrible person, and no amount of good deeds could possibly make up for the atrocities of his past, they can only help to try and MAYBE balance it out.

Thats the whole thing about being good guys.
They tend to not usurp thrones, attempt to kill children, and overall benefit from lies and deceit.

Jaimes actions have hurt the realm on such a large scale, that only big amends can begin to balance it out.

Stannis won't stop his fight as long as the lannister bastards usurp his throne, and why should he?
He fought and watched men die to place his brother upon it, and the Lannisters spit upon all the deaths on both sides of the rebellion by stealing it, and the baratheon name.

Really all he has to do is survive 2 books. if UnCat, Stannis, Dany, Cersei, Aegon, any other Stark, or the Others don't kill him. He is golden. I don't think he will get Castley rock. Mayhaps lord of Tarth.

Redemption doesn`t mean that he has to fix every single mistake of his life, just to fix those he can by not hurting anyone

1. I don`t believe he will ever hurt Myrcella and Tommen like that by admitting they are bastards born out of incest. Those are his children, he wouldn`t take everything from them
2. Taking black is one posssibility, but I would rather see him in white cloak protecting Targaryens, and by that, paying his Lannister debt
3. Unfortunately, I can`t see how would he redeem for pushing Bran off that window. Alas, that hand was cut off, so maybe crimes done by that hand are officially paid.
4. Die peacfully.

I like Jaime, because his evolution, just like Sansa`s has been amazing...I like characters that are utterly changed, by the end of the books. Nothing can be same, but he sure isn`t man we all thought he was.

Frankly, I don't think there can be redemption for a character like Jaime. At least, not in any way I'll be satisfied with.
