its not better than anything. in retrospect its not the worst book ever, though it is awful, but if you go in with low expectations you'll probably enjoy it more than i did. just look at its average review on amazon to see how high expectations can screw with your enjoyment.

I thought it was. Big characters back and "some" stuff actually happens. ADWD picks up a little during the 2nd half of the book, although a couple really enjoyable chapters early on. They both are set-up books. Basically I might read ADWD again where I don't think I can ever read AFFC again. If you go in accepting it's not gonna be as good as the 1st three then you'll be fine.

It's not really fair to call one book in the series better than another…The story is ongoing. Even in wars, there are stalemates - periods when nothing much seems to be happening, when in reality, the factions are -regrouping, planning the next attack. In some ways, AFFC is like that - we have a lot of POV's with people just reminiscing, but those reminiscences are important. They give us insight which may be useful going forward. . There's is less fighting and dying, but I think we gain valuable information in AFFC.

It depends. If you enjoy politics with a low pace, Feast it is. If you enjoy action with an higher pace, Dance it is. I loved the both of them, probably because my expectations weren't high due to the hatred and the fact that I didn't have to wait 11 years for both books.

i rank the series as follows:

1. A Storm of Swords

2. A Clash of Kings

3. A Dance with Dragons

4. A Game of Thrones

5. A Feast for Crows

and I liked feast more than most people i think, so if you're just opinion polling you can see that I thought dance was a pretty good book.

It took me at least a month to read Dance because I kept putting it down out of boredome. I thought it was an incredibly tedious read and with the exception of one certain PoV (that rhymes with weak) most of the characters became downright obnoxious (Dany, Tyrion, Jon...). I went in with pretty low expectations and it still managed to disappoint me.

There are good scenes scattered here and there, but they are lost in a sea of travelogue and exposition.

Feast had a good deal of travelogue as well but at least it gave us insight on parts of the world we actually care about.

So it goes something like this:

1. Storm

2. Game

3. Clash

4. Feast

5. Dance

But different people care about different parts...Nobody cared about Dorne before AFFC. I personally didn't care for Mereen, but I love the North (where most of ADwD is set). I didn't really care about the Riverlands or Kings Landing in AFFC. In terms of plot, I think ADWD is generally considered more exciting but less complicated. And it depends too on what characters are your favourite.

My order:

1. A Clash of Kings

2. A Dance With Dragons

3. A Storm of Swords

4. A Feast for Crows

About to re-read Feast, may prefer it second time round.

(Never read A Game of Thrones)

I just look at all the books as one large story broken up into volumes. So for me I can't rank one book or the other "better" because its all one story to me. Feast started off slower then most of the others but I enjoyed it just as much.

I never go off of other peoples reviews, especially ones on amazon when it comes to books or movies. I tend to take those more into consideration if I am buying a TV or something not books.

I just started reading ADWD this week and I've really enjoyed the first stretch of chapters more than the first ones of AFFC (although I did really like AFFC more than I was expecting.)

Dance is much much better.

The northern POVs are significantly better than anything happening in Dorne or King's Landing

and a certain POV (you must remember your name) is some of the best writing Martin has ever done.

but I did hate everything happening across the narrow sea
