I'd imagine he knows about the Others, but I agree that the other stuff might come as a shock.

That's if he isn't already south of the Wall and knows everything.  Either way, it will be very interesting.  I definitely don't think he's dead though.

I get the feeling that if we meet him again and he is alive, he will be either a wight or something along them lines.

Then he would be dead.

I don't think he's a zombie, if he was he would have come back with the rest of his group.  I believe he is alive and well somewhere.

Maybe he and Tyrek Lannister are hanging out with Aurane Waters wherever whores go, and having themselves a grand old time, like, thank god we got out of that mess...

Benjen is the Valonqar. He's down south plotting the timely demise of Cersei.

Alright then I must speak to Robb he is heir to Winterfell and....oh dead too? Red Wedding? Then find me Bran he is the next in line to succ-....Sack of Winterfell??!! War of the Five Kings? Who protects the realm now? Oh fuck this I'm going back to the Land of Always Winter where shit wasn't so politically complicated."

There has been way too much mention of him since his disappearance for there not to be something awesome in store for us with Benjen....

Maybe he's learnt how to control the wights and is forming an army to kill the remaining Freys. That is if there's any left by the time he returns.

Bran makes a remark in the first book, that the COTF could help Benjen, i think that was some foreshadowing. I believe Benjen will be part of Bran's storyline.

I agree. Also Theon didn't see him among the dead Starks in his dream. And there is also that line from Jon to Thorne that Benjen would never betray his wows, so I think that he did will do something no t100% in tune with NW wows.

Benjen is a mystery that will be solved.  I agree, if he's been hiding in a hole in the Frost Fangs or the Land of Always Winter, he's in for a big surprise when he returns.  Hope he's alive.  It would be nice if one of his generation of Starks survived.

Exactly.  Benjen is already part of Bran's story line.  He's Coldhands,

The only question is whether Coldhands still exists.  I believe Bloodraven gave Bran a technically accurate but misleading answer.  Coldhands is dead, was dead and will still be dead.  But he could still be tottering around.

I thought Coldheads was way older than Benjen. Coldhands said he was from the nightwatch, but that it was a long time ago. I assumed it literary was a long time ago as in decades or centuries, not as in couple of years ago. though it may seem like it feld for him like a long time ago because of the physical changes he went through. He has the discription of an other, yet he is still conscious with his own mind and not a brainless zombie like the wights we have encountered on the wall and beyond.

Cold Hands is I assume a wights, but not a wight we have encountered before, and thinking about this is cracking my brain. from what I can remember of the second (or third/fourth) book, Benjen was captured and kept on the frostfangs (maybe it was the first book, thinking back).anyway, He was captured and taken by the wildlings. somwhere along the way there must have been an attack on the lair where Benjen was captured and Something might have happened to him that made him Coldhands.

I am Fullly aware that I am starting to contradict myself but this Coldhands made me think and that was the first things that cracked up from reading the posts above. Wht I think is that Coldhands got attacked beyond the wall, maybe he is Benjen, maybe he is another member of the nightwatch who was lost decades ago, but he was attacked by wights and something strange must have happened that turned him into a half wight.

sorry if this post made no sense at all, but it happeneds when my brain starts spinning and something cracks open

Agree, I think Benjen is Coldhands. But, maybe in someone else's body...my theory is Benjen was dying, or being attacked, and warged into the body of a wight. (like varamyr tries to warg into the body of an old woman in the prologue of DwD, cause there's no one else around...Anyway warging seems to run in the Stark family so why not Benjen?

I believe that Benjen is alive. He is not Coldhands. Coldhands is probably the Night's King, aka Brandon Stark.

Why is there such faith that Benjen is still alive/undead? Seems much more likely that he's dead-dead.

The bodies of the men amongst his ranging party were found, but he was not. In addition, someone left the horn and dragonglass that Jon and Ghost found in ACoK.

Generally, major named characters receive better plot armour than "never heard from again" in fiction.
