I noticed that Daniel Abraham's "The Black Sun's Daughter" series does not get discussed much on this board. And, being that I am kind of a Daniel Abraham fanboy, I thought that this was very, very wrong. Personally, I think that Abraham's take on urban fantasy is incredibly fresh. I have always thought of urban fantasy as being somewhat like the poor man's fantasy part of the genre. Additionally, I strongly associate urban fantasy with horrible sex scenes (which are nowhere to be found in this series, thank you!). It's just nice to know that there is some very good urban fantasy out there. Personally, this is my favorite urban fantasy series. /raving/

Additionally, I had a question as to when "The Graveyard Child" was to be published. Granted, I know that Abraham has a ton of stuff he is currently working on (The Dagger and the Coin, The Expanse, and the Game of Thrones comic) and that "Killing Rites" came out last year...but also know that Abraham is one of those outlier Sanderson-like novelists that seem to be able to put out two great books a year and I was desperately hoping that "The Graveyard Child" would be coming out soon...like tomorrow. ;)

So, any thoughts on the series or any news as to the next installment? Please share!

Tried reading this, IIRC the first book has some apparently Hispanic gang-members that I found unrealistic so I stopped.

eta: Yup, right around "Anglo motherfucker" followed by some silly dick wagging. Don't get me wrong, Abraham's one of the most talented guys in the genre, but I couldn't make it past this scene.

I've read the first two, and to be honest found them a bit underdeveloped and by the numbers.

Pretty sure they're not actually Hispanic gang members if you read on to about the second page of the book.

I think they're pretty decent books, not my favourite urban fantasy but certainly readable. They do get better as the series goes along as well.

I read the first three books but I'm not planning on continuing with the series.  The first two were okay and while I never really warmed up to the heroine, I liked some of the other characters and I liked the idea of there being a different city setting for each book.  The third book killed the series for me.  There was a plot point I didn't like.  Also the book took place in a city I'm very familiar with and there were mistakes with respect to the city.  Also there were quite a few other mistakes with respect to architecture / architectural history which bothered me even more.

It's more the set up, yes I know the dude is a werewolf. And I actually read the whole prologue if memory serves, maybe part of the first chapter. Just didn't feel real to me.

I don't disagree with this (and the third is the same), but the fourth book was my favorite book of Abraham's released last year.  It built wonderfully on the first three and was near impossible to put down.  As with the rest of his books I'll be reading the next one as soon as it is released.
