One of our cats once threw up all over my bed. Worst thing was, I came back from a night out drinking and climbed in to the bed without turning the light on... Yeah, not pleasant.

I know! It was a huge amount and I had to clean it up before my husband moved. He is a hard sleeper. I turned on the light, cleaned the stuff up, put a towel over it. He slept through the whole thing. Another trivial annoyance.

Today I feel like I should be on hard-core anti-depressants.
On the plus side of things, I have plenty of beer and wine and bourbon at home. So self-medicating when I get off work shouldn't be a problem.
I perscribe the use of a shower when enjoying these self medications.

He finally updated his proposed billing and emailed it to us, showing the correct cap and our contribution, as well as the payment plan schedule. His office called last week to confirm the payment plan choice with me.
So we go to get the actual braces today, and as they are making the molds for my son, the receptionist comes over with a bill for X number of $$ (hundreds). I thought it was part of the downpayment and she says, no, this is the uptake fee. The what? "the uptake fee for you because you are on the ____ (military) plan."
I was stunned. I said, "um, Miss, that's a pass-through -- balanced billing -- and it's not only barred under my EoB (explanation of benefits), it's illegal in this state."
Seriously took another 40 mins of wrangling with the orthodontist and the receptionist.
By the time we left (without braces though they tried to complete it despite my refusal), I still hadn't gotten an explanation of what the $xxx.xx money was for. I asked how they were going to code it for the insurance and was told at different times: 1. they aren't going to bill the insurance (of course not, it's balanced billing and prohibited) and 2. I'd have to ask my insurance company what the code was ..and while I was at it, I could ask the insurance company what the actual fee was for.
My insurance company is going to file a complaint against the orthodontist, but in the meantime, we have to start all over with a new orthodontist and we may have additional out of pocket expenses to redo xrays, molds, etc.
Grrrr.
One last thing.
This is supposed to be a benefit for military families. The only people who have this plan are active duty military. Braces are still ridiculously expensive (~$6000-8000), but we are supposed to have a plan that gets that down by hundreds of dollars. As I was talking with the orthodontist, we were surrounded with these gigantic stuffed exotic fish. I saw 4 between the waiting area and the office. There's a swordfish that I swear is as big as a pony. So as he's "reading" my EoB, I observed that he must like to deepsea fish. He said, "oh yes, I do!" and I asked where he travels to fish. "Florida, as often as I can." he replied. I waited a few seconds, then commented that "my son's father travels to Afghanistan." (and Iraq...8 times in 10 years.) I said it as drily as humanly possible. I really wanted to punch him in his double chin, but it was clearly the excessive heat and the lack of lunch that was trying my self-control.
shew, thanks.
