Right, but from what he was told all he had to do was sit tight for a couple of days and they would leave him alone. I don't know. I thought it was a weird scene. The writing for the entire episode seemed too...eager or something.

Also, is Hank climbing ladders now? That's a pretty quick recovery.

That was when it looked like everything could be resolved quietly. But the police have been alerted to the possibility that Ted was assaulted in his home, so Ted spilling beans is a very real possibility that Skylar would want to eliminate.

What happened to Ted, I don't remember that well but didn't he just try to run away and fell over? He's seriously fucked up now, am I forgetting something?

He slipped and fell head first into what looked like a sturdy piece of wooden furniture, giving him what apparently was a pretty severe head injury.

Yeah, that was a pretty intense scene with Ted in hospital. I don't know about anyone else but I burst out laughing when their truck fell against the building.

Same here. You just knew that it wouldn't work out flawlessly. There had to be some kind of typical BB hiccup in their operation.

Jesse ranting about the magnets in the background was great too.

good start to the season. The magnet thing was a bit wacky bit the show has always had an absurd element to it and it did allow them to film that nice scene with the metal objects moving.
There were two great lines in the show mainly because of how chilling they were. "good" from Skylar and "I forgive you" from Walt. It shows that both of them are going down a dark path but Walt is so far ahead of the curve that he threatens his own family (although I'm not sure he realises that he's threatening Skylar).

Hank was clearly struggling getting down those ladders. I guess his obsession with the case would give him the motication to tackle the ladders and the scene works better if he's the one figuring it out. They maybe got him out on ropes :)

I'm fine with the intro scene, It doesn't really give a whole lot away. His family could be in the state with him or anything. We just know he's still goin gto be in toruble in over a year's time.

The magnet thing is a little bit far fetched, if you ask me, but it was fine (they worked it out really good) ... Still didn't get over the major flaw from last season (Gus' death scene). But the show is working on its redemption for me. My favorite part was the final scene, the 'I forgive you' line was wonderful!

EDIT: I think the flashforwards will be setting up the next 8 episodes, for next summer.

Yeah! Magnets bitch!

I love how both Mike and Walt are so used to just ignoring Jesse that it took him three times before they even heard his idea. Also, though he has no real reason to stick around, this obviously wont be the last we see of Mike.

Yeah, I'm skeptical about the flashforward device too. BB has a way of overhyping things, and season four worked in large part because they didn't hype the Gus-Walt duel of death beyond what the story required.

I think it worked very well in one sense - it totally undercut the preening arrogance Walt displayed throughout the rest of the episode. The Walt we saw in that cold open was downbeat, desperate and scared. And, apparently, in dire need of a huge fuck-off machine gun.

did the intro scene reveal what state he was actually in, or just that he was pretending to be from New Hampshire?

The implication I got was that he was returning to ABQ from somewhere else (although theoretically he may have never left). The only reason I say that is because the waitress asked him if he was "heading to California", and then he also meets with the same gun dealer from the beginning of season four.

After watching Breaking Bad last night, I noticed the following thread on this forum:

Inspired, I could only think of one possible answer:

The magnet thing wasn't really farfetched.  It's been a while since e-mag classes and I can't be arsed to run the calculations but 42 car batteries would generate a pretty nice field (we did some cool things in labs with a lot less.  The best labs are the ones where they don't let you take your cell phones or laptops in, and need to take notes with pencil and paper).  I wouldn't be surprised at all to learn that the effects shots were done "practically" with an actual electromagnet.

The show is very, very good with its science.  I'm reminded of the "Four Days Out" episode where Walt jerry-rigs a makeshift car battery, and lots of people and reviewers deigned to say it was unrealistic.  Except that they built an actual battery using the makeshift method Walt describes, and while it may or may not have been actually capable of starting an RV (probably not), it was very much a real battery.  When Bryan Cranston connects the jumper cable to the anode, there's a spark, and that spark was real and not added in post.

Khal Pono: I'm writing a story where the form of "magic" involves (largely) heavy manipulation of electromagnetic fields.  I definitely have some fun scenes planned where full plate armor ... isn't so much an asset.

I just started watching this show a few weeks ago and managed to finish up the 4th season right in time for the Season 5 premiere last night. Since I'm late to Breaking Bad and all the discussion surrounding it (although I've read this entire thread), I ask that you forgive me if I'm treading on familiar ground.

My primary frustration - and fascination - with this series is the characters' steadfast refusal to opt for easier ways out when the opportunities present themselves. Walt is the clearest example for this, but everyone suffers from it. Many times during this last season, I've questioned why the hell Walt and Jesse continue to stick their necks out for each other when they can't even manage to have a decent conversation. They don't like each other and treat each other like total shit, yet there's that bond that pulls them together. So many times I've screamed at the tv in frustration, wondering why Walt doesn't just walk away from Jesse when Jesse's on a self-destructive path, and vice versa. But then the story plays out and the two always manage to come to some resolution and life settles down, only to go nuclear again whenever one or the other refuses to just let things be. It's really like one of those explosive marriages in which the couple fight constantly but can't live without each other.

Clearly this consistent stubbornness is going to be one or the other's undoing and I guess that's where the fascination part comes in. But it still makes this a difficult show to watch. As such, I find it profoundly better to have watched the show in a continuum rather than on a weekly basis. I think the frustrations over their stupid behavior would bother me much more if it didn't play out fast enough (i.e. over the course of a months-long season) and after watching the premiere last night, I'm tempted to just lay off the show entirely until it's done.

Am I the only one who feels like this?

True, but all the waitress knows is that he's got a NH driver's license, and is drawing conclusions from that. Still, I do actually think that he's coming back from out of town.

It almost looked like he was readying for his final standoff...one epic firestorm to end the show

If he has that sort of firepower, it has got to be cause agents are after him, right? Even with the cartel and Gus you never got into anything of that size.

I agree. So far, Walt has managed to evade the DEA and get rid of everyone else in his way. So you have to think that, at some point, the Feds are going to catch up to him. Hank has been just too smart of an agent for this to keep getting away from him.

I don't know, what's the point if it's the DEA after him? That seems like something you'd need if you're afraid for your life rather than worried that your brother in law is going to arrest you.
