AFFC seems to get a bit of a bad wrap amongst a lot of fans from ASOIAF but I really enjoyed it. Coming off ASOS it could seem a little bit less intense but it still has some cracking moments in it. Brienne's chapters were maybe a little bit dry from time to time but I loved all the stuff from Dorne (prince doran, arianne). Prince Doran actually surprised me when he took the back foot approach early on when one of the sand snakes came demanding that they go to war, I was expecting a rally of the banners and a full on march to kings landing.

I read GoT in a week, I read the entire red wedding to the end of aSoS in 4 days, these book enthrall me.

But aFFC is just really a grind for me to get through, but I REALLY want to get a aDWD. My friends who read the series had the same issue.

Without all my favorite characters, and so many new ones who don't hold my interest I'm really having trouble. anyone else?

Exactly the same 100% I just wanna finish both because Winds o Winter is going to be epic.

I liked this book very much at the beginning. I'm half way through now and kinda just stopped reading. I think very well written but it is a tedious read. though that could be just from all these books back to back. lol. btw this is my first post, i've been reading here for months, finally made an account.

I re-read and just finished AFFC a few days ago, and it turned out..I appreciated this book much better than during my first reading. I still had the difficulty getting through with the Ironborn and Dorne chapters maybe because I don't care much about them. With Brienne's, she was okay coz I like her a little bit (but still, annoyingly slow). Cersei's chapters were the ones I totally enjoyed.

Slow down. It will get boring if you try to push yourself through chapters you don´t like - and only read when you feel like it, then it will be easier. Personally, I did not have that kind of problem, I really enjoyed Feast.

Like most people, I have difficulty getting through AFFC because most of my favorite characters are not here. I'm glad there's still Arya though, but she only have a few chapters. One thing that made this book not too bad for me is that I'm able to fully concentrate on what's going on in King's Landing. Cersei provides some of the best lol's, imo.

There were some parts of AFFC that I enjoyed very much, especially Arya, Alayne and Cersei chapters.

One thing that really bugged me about the Brienne chapters was Podrick Payne's repeated "Ser? My lady?" refrain. Is he daft? HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR SOMEONE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO CALL THEIR TRAVEL COMPANION?

A friend and I are both reading A Song of Ice and Fire and we find that you occasionally stop for a while in a slow part, but so far A Feast for Crows has been going along fine for me. I find Brienne's storyline a little slow for some reason, but in A Clash of Kings I found Arya's slow, and in A Storm of Swords I found Daenerys's slow, so, there's always one with me. But otherwise, I've read faster through A Feast for Crows than any other of books.

See I used to dislike her, but now we are shown just how much of a fruitcake she is, I kinda pity her!

I would view this book similiar to GOT because after the previous book, with the many, many climaxes.. it needs to have the characters positions set for the final climax in Book 7.  To me, this book was awesome and a lot more political.  However the Iron Born IMO are the most boring characters in the series, I hope they become more interesting as the story moves into Books 6 + 7

The best storyline being Cersei's..

I'm about 450 pages in. There have been some good chapters, but then, the uneven pace slows again.

I like "some" backstory. I can handle "some" backstory. But too much, and there's been a LOT so far, really gets slow to me. Too many names of people in the backstory that don't seem to have much to do with anything, and just seem like superfulous writing. If I'm the slightest bit tired--it just becomes drugery to get through. Maybe, hopefully, it will mean more as i keep reading, but so far...meh.

That said, I'm enjoying parts of the book, but it does seem a bit like running in circles---with very little real progress being made.

I had a hard time reading it and becoming interested in the new characters at first.  I did like the Dorne chapters a lot and Cersei's and Jaimie's POV but other than that it was a struggle.  Ironborn chapters are the worst...I don't care about that story line at all.  I find Asha Greyjoy absolutely repulsive.  Victarion, Euron and Aeron all annoy me as well.

See, it's odd how different every person's reaction is. I've always enjoyed Asha. And Damphair keeps me interested, too. By contrast, I'm having a hard time getting into the Dornish story line. Partly because of backstory issues already mentioned. So far, there just hasn't been enought good dialog to hook me into the new characters.  Still reading...

AFFC isn't bad, but it is certainly not up to par with the previous books in the series. The same can be said for ADWD, in which nothing really happens for more than half book (though the last hundred pages or so do somewhat redeem it) It's definitely worth reading, it's just that it really pales in comparison to the other books of the series (yes, AFFC included)
