Feelings on Dany's story thus Far

I realize Dany's story does not really progress in AFfC but I wanted to just discuss/question a few things here:

1) Is anyone irritated that her story ended in ASofS with her decision to stay in Meereen?

For someone who is so passionately dedicated to reclaiming her throne, she seems very reticent to move ahead with this goal.

Is she just a young girl who doesn't feel confident enough yet?

Is she smart enough to realize she doesn't have the resources yet?

Has she let her heart rule her head with her desire to free every slave in Essos?

I mean really; I get it. It's a noble cause but couldn't she do more good for the slaves of the world from her seat on the Iron Throne?

I feel her story line has been so bogged down with this "do-gooder" project.

Maybe I'm just a power hungry, jaded ASoIF reader lusting for more blood and conquest.

Get those dragons trained up and let's kick some Westerosi butt already.

I think that she stood in Meereen to know how is to be a real queen, how to rule, what to do with rebels.

It was a very smart decision. If she just invaded Westeros with the Unsullied without trying to conquest the Slaver Bay, she would lose the throne soon.

Yeah that is a good take on it, I felt the same as the OP when I got through AFFC especially after the shit storm that went down from getting the unsullied. It could be calculated, but it could easily spell her doom.

1) Her story always seems to irritate me.

2) She is confident and cautious at the same time, which are good qualities for a leader. She is wise enough to listen to advice but wise enough to not become a toy in the game of thrones.

3)She is defiantly wise enough to know that she does not have the resources.

4)She may have let her heart rule her head. But she is attempting to be the Queen on the iron throne, since there is no slavery in westeros, this decision will make her more appealing in the long run. It will make her look less like the Queen across the narrow sea and more like the Queen on the iron throne.

5)I agree with the "do gooder" idea. She seems to be the only character in these novels that is untouchable. Meaning she is the only one that i feel like is safe from GRRM.

Yeah, kind of. At first anyway, but then I thought about it. She isn't seasoned enough, her dragons aren't strong enough, and She has no allies. All of which are needed to truely conquer not just wage war.

For someone who is so passionately dedicated to reclaiming her throne, she seems very reticent to move ahead with this goal.

In short, Yes to all the above.

She is realizing the need to be tender, and to make the hard decisions. She is afraid of becoming Viserys, I think. Barristan may have scared her when he hinted that her family has had a history of going mad.

She is young, and all young people(all people really) doubt their skills/worth/value from time to time, and she might be feeling that she isn't able to do what needs to be done. She has learned well from Jorah, and she can see more of the big picture that she couldn't see before.

Maybe I'm just a power hungry, jaded ASoIF reader lusting for more blood and conquest.

Me too! Seriously though, these dragons are going to absolutely DESIMATE the entire armies of westeros, and probably a good portion of the people and the lands. Think about an animal the size of a whale that flies, spits fire, and is trained as a warrior. There is NOTHING that can compare. Sure they can be slain, but how many thousands of men will die trying?

The carnage of the dragons return will make Blackwater look like a child stepping on an ant hill.

I CAN'T WAIT.

I think she realizes a) she isn't strong enough to win Westeros just yet, b ) her dragons aren't big/strong enough to help her win Westeros, and c) she doesn't want Meereen to end up like Astapor once she leaves (she actually says this in ASOS).

She also says in ASOS I believe that she needsd Jorah's counsel. Seeing as she just had him banished, I don't think she's confident enough to move on without him. I also tend to believe she needs her beloved bear to help her....possibly bringing the North to her cause, through Bear Island...
