I loved the Batman series by Nolan and I would be interested in seeing how Nolan treats this subject matter.
I do wish who ever made the teaser had put in different music than LotR from The Fellowhip, it was very distracting.
I expected to hear Frodo yell "NO".

This is crazy talk. Supes is awesome it's just not many writers can do the character justice. As for "whitebread", that's a silly comment given his historical, socialist origins at the hands of two Jewish guys.

That said, Snyder is shit director so I don't see much hope for this.

Superman isn't anymore boring than any other superhero. He's just frequently mishandled. He can be used in a ton of different, interesting ways. For one, he's a great metaphor for the American Dream - he's an immigrant who comes to the USA and makes good. He's literally an illegal alien who grows up to love the positive things about his adopted homeland and homeworld, and fight against the bad. Secondly, and from the looks of the trailer they might be playing with this a bit, which is great - Superman is a blue collar dude. He's quintessentially working class. He grew up on a farm in Kansas. And his arch villain is a selfish billionaire. These days with all this talk of the 99%, you can do a ton with that idea. Superman isn't an authority figure, he's a champion of the "huddled masses".

As for being overpowered - why does that matter? He's not anymore overpowered than John McClane in Die Hard, or any other action hero. Spoiler alert guys - the baddies never beat Indianna Jones either. With Superman, you just need to change the stakes. it isn't "is he going to win this fist fight", but rather 'can he save that falling baby in time" or whatever. He can't be everywhere at once, even though he wants, even needs too be. That's where the dramatic tension comes in, and not from "woah is superman gonna beat up these muggers?" He wants to save everyone, and he can't.

Also, I like that he isnt all grim and serious. His entire race has been wiped out and his planet exploded but he isn't grim and dark. He doesn't whine and pout, he just rolls up his sleeves and get's on with doing the right thing.

It looks like they are handling the whole "he's overpowered" criticism anyway by replacing Lex Luthor ( who I have always found very lame) with Zod, a Kryptonian general with powers on his level.

Darkseid would have been fun as well.

For Darkseid you've basically gotta introduce a whole bunch of other new fantastical elements.

Well, the potential problem in Superman fighting Kryptonians and other mega-powered villains is that it can relegate to the background the whole dynamic with him trying to find a place among humans.

Superman 2 did a pretty good job of this, I think. I hope this one works.

The first couple seconds of the trailer, I thought that Peter Jackson was going with a very strange visual design for The Hobbit.  I get that trailer makers constantly recycle music but it seems very silly to take something as recognizable as LOTR music.

As for the trailer/teaser itself, meh. I really liked Nolan's Batman, the first Iron Man, and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, and otherwise I really don't care for or about all these superhero movies and I am totally ready for Hollywood to move on to its next fad.  (It'll eventually happen but the market doesn't look anywhere close to ready to drop out on them yet).

Ok, but I just take that to mean that there isnt much there for writers to bite into. And while he may have started off with socialist origins, in the intervening decades he's been pretty much a middle America wet dream.

Again, these are things other people may find fascinating but I dont. And thats ok too.

I think Superman is actually a connection to the ideal that the basic ideas of loving your neighbor and giving people some modicum of respect is a check on the abuse of power.

So it is Truth, Justice, and the American Way, but if you look at the socialist history of the character this has evolved into commenting positively on things like gay rights (Maggie Sawyer is a lesbian).

Supes is really the antithesis of Tea Party intolerance *as well as* the snobby liberal elitism that prevades modern discourse.

In the right hands this film could be a great time to examine the "American Way", both its positives and negatives...but since it's Snyder I just expect some chicks flying around in lingerie and a shit-ton of special effects. Multiple sonic booms breaking windows across New York city as Zod fights Supes.

I think for 50% of the series Smallville did Superman or the Superman mythology at least, right and found a whole lot to bite onto, change and rewrite. It's just a serious pity that for the other 50% they thought they were doing Dawson's Creek

And it's pretty obvious from what I see that Tesla was an evil manical scientist that drew Superman to fight him

Indeed. But LOTR was hardly the only one to recycle that theme.

Cool!  thanks for the link.  I like the trailers.  I'm excited.  My 5 year old loves Superman and comics, but I'm not sure what this will be rated.  I saw the first Christopher Reeve Superman in 1st grade (6 years old) and loved it.

I enjoyed the hell out of Smallville, even though I had to endure the teen angsty BS.  It was a great little CW show and because it was on the CW, it was allowed to go what?  10 years as a work-horse series that allowed characters and storylines a little more time to breathe.  They didn't always nail it, no, but I feel like they got enough right that I stuck around.  Happily.
