Thanks to a head’s up from Maureen Ryan of the Huffington Post, we now know that director Michelle MacLaren—who’s won plaudits, and well-deserved ones, for her work as a producer and director on Breaking Bad—will be directing episodes 7 and 8 of the third season of Game of Thrones, and she’ll start lensing the series “soon”.read on >>>

Either Nutter or Maclaren will be doing the Red Wedding. Who will be the best to do it?

RW will definitely be episode 9. Those always leave those shockers for the second to last episode, so that way we can get the repercussions of that event for the final episode, like Ned's death and Blackwater. If they put it at episode 8, it wouldn't feel right, since most major things happen in episode 9 and 10.

I agree. Would Nutter be better than Maclaren (for the Red Wedding)? I don't know shit about directors and stuff. Oh, Christ, I can't wait to see it on screen. D&D better not fuck it up.

Whoah, Breaking Bad director directing GoT episodes.......... Am I dreaming? Can we get Peter Jackson to direct the episodes where Jon sees the giants and mammoths too? =p

As someone who got on board with the series because of Jane Espenson's involvement early on, I'm super psyched to see the show hire women to direct too, especially when I admire their other work. Good job, show.

Funny, I was always curious, if Peter Jackson was free, if he would like to direct an episode.
I think unlikely.
Have looked a little, to see if Jackson has ever comments on HBO's GOT, never seen anything.

He'll be doing the Red Wedding then. I hope he's good.

Edit: she'll* and she's*

I thought D&D would want to tackle the Red Wedding as directorial debut, but it seems that they've made the (wise) choice to let Michelle MacLaren handle that episode. She's done some incredible work on Breaking Bad (the ending of One Minute might be the most tense sequence I've seen on television), so she should do an amazing job. I'd say, given the title of episode seven, that the Red Wedding will be in episode eight. I hope so, because the 'epic episode nine' formula they've worked with in seasons one and two needs to go. This seems like a good way to shake things up a bit.

Same thought here... The plot is definitely thickening a lot regarding the pacing of the season. I still thinks its entirely viable for Episode 9 to be RW, but I simply think that trying to think economically they would put it in Episode 8. Are D&D just trying to gain experience for future projects? Like Martin said, this is a heap of work they've forced on themselves at this point. It seems strange they wouldn't go for broke on it.

The guy who has no TV experience and whose style lays in complete contrast to GoT (seriously, have you seen Lovely Bones?)? Nah. PJ's only good at stuff he's passionate about. If he were passionate about this project, I think we would have known a long time ago.

I didn't realize she directed One Minute.  Now that makes me excited and I'm now hoping she does the RW.  I can just imagine the slaughter occuring in a similar fashion to the incredibly tense final minutes of that episode.

The Breaking Bad episode "Salud," which she directed, is my favorite from season 4.

Please, let the Red Wedding be in episode 8, so George can set it up in Autumn Storms.

EDIT: Loved her episodes in Breaking Bad, especially the final minutes of One Minute.

Yeah, I have a feeling they'll go for episode eight on the Red Wedding. That leaves two whole episodes for aftermath, and also shakes up the "crazy shit will happen in episode nine" routine they've done twice in a row. MacLaren would be a great director for it as well.

If the RW is in Episode 8 will the Purple Wedding be in Episode 10 or Episode 1 of Season 4?

3x10 would be better. They'd have to get Jack Gleeson back for just one scene if they did PW in 4x01.

The Purple Wedding will be in season 4, I'm sure about that.

Im definitely betting Joffrey's Wedding will be the finale to season 3. Its an awesome season ender. No one will see it coming. Especially if they put the focus on Will Sansa escape or not?
