@girl w curious hair:

The Van Halen song is a remake of a Roy Orbison song.  Check him out if you've never heard him;  his voice will break your heart.

Also was a big VHS fan.  Your mom and I are probably the same age.  :)

Whenever I hear 1979 by the Smashing Pumpkins I am a 13 year old delinquent again.

You will, you will, you will by Bright Eyes (I don't know exactly how many you wills or what punctuation is involved in the title but it's close to that) is a song tied to kissing my ex fiancee Eric for the first time (this isn't sad, we're on good terms and have a bobcat together). It was the first time I heard it and even with a first kiss going on I noticed and remembered how much I liked that song.

Nobody I'm sure here is much of a country fan but He Walked On Water by Randy Travis is the only song capable of reducing me to tears. If anyone knows that song you already know it is because I looked up so much to my grandfather.

Bob Seger's Beautiful Loser album is roadtripping to the family farm with my dad. I remember he had it on a cassette that was half painted orange from overspray on the garage floor when he painted his truck.

Here I go again by Whitesnake - It's for every chronically single guy when he breaks up with the ocassional girlfriend.

The Lonely Man aka The Sad Walking away music from the Incredible Hulk.

My Way - I love the Frank Sinatra version but my favorite is the Elvis version.

That's Life - Frank Sinatra

Come on Eileen - word on the street is I used to dance to this in my car seat.

Why Can't This Be Love, Right Now  - Van Halen

Power of Love - Huey Lewis and the News

Godzilla - Blue Oyster Cult,  My father used to sing this to me when I was a little boy because I was obsessed with Godzilla, or maybe I liked Godzilla specifically because he would sing it to me.Those are my favorite memories of my dad. And now it is my go to karaoke song.

There are more just can't think of them right now.

I had to make a hard decision at some point in my life. Those 2 songs helped me do it. A decision which changed my life.

It's been mentioned before but it's certain albums I associate with parts of my life .

For Emma , Forever Ago by Bon Iver - This is one I've listened to the most I think. It's a beautifully hushed record.

Continuum by John Mayer

The soundtrack for Eternal Sunshine , paticularly Everybody's gotta learn sometime by Beck

The song most imbedded in my psyche is ‘The Circle of Life’ from the Lion King soundtrack. You know, the one starting the whole movie with the searing, morning sun, rising above the African savanna, the animals gathering to celebrate the birth of their future king, Rafiki holding Simba high, towards the sun, showing him to his kingdom. This was the first movie I ever saw in theaters, and I still remember how wonderfully entranced I was by this opening sight. The Lion King has remained my favorite movie due mostly to the soundtrack and nostalgia it holds.

‘I Am the Walrus’ is the song that got me to love the Beatles.

‘Hymn to Freedom’ by the Oscar Peterson Trio. It imbues me with a sense of motivation and hope, so I listen to it whenever I feel disconcerted.

‘Smooth’ by Santana. My sister, my dad, and I would blast this on the stereo in the living room and shake our butts til bedtime. It takes me back to a time when I didn’t have inhibitions about my dance skills.

‘Rhapsody in Blue’ by George Gershwin. My boyfriend has been one of the main motivators in my life and he is obsessed with Gershwin. This song is also very whimsical so I can’t help but smile whenever I hear the clarinet trill at the opening.

‘(Oh) Pretty Woman’ by Van Halen. Van Halen was my mom’s favorite band, and this was her favorite song they did.

Excellent taste!!! George Gershwin. Fantastic!! Did you ever see The Lion King on stage? Wow, wow, wow!

Dang! We need to find some girlfriend that lasts songs. :( Regarding "Come on Eileen" I always thought that it said: "Come on Eileen, you smell like a bee." Clearly, that wasn't the true lyrics. I still don't know what they are.

David Foster Wallace.  He wrote a short story called The Girl with the Curious Hair and a bunch of other good stories from the early 80s, I think.

Oh, this tickled me...

I used to work with this moron who said in a senior mgmt meeting that he was going to have to "throw down the gondola".  Another person advised that he should be careful, as this could injure his back.

He no longer works there and we still all say that we are going to throw down the gondola.
