First of all, is there any evidence that other Red God priests are impervious to cold?  I know Moqorro seems fairly hardy, having survived stranded on the sea for ten days IIRC.

Is this the answer to why she is impervious to cold?

Sometimes I want to stab her to see if she is a dragon.  Or Firewyrm.  Or maybe all the red priests are actually dragons who have learnt a little magic. Or there is a humanoid variant, like there are Sea, Ice, and underground dragon variants.

I think she's just a woman who have had the oppertunity and will to learn a great deal about the fire magic that the priests of the Lord of Light are supposed to known, unlike certain other more lax priests she has put some effort into it.

“And Renly Baratheon? Who was it who killed him?”Her head turned. Beneath the shadow of the cowl, her eyes burned like pale red candle flames. “Not I.” ACOK

This description of her eyes sugests that she might be a fire-wight (just like UnCat?), that would explain why she dosent need to eat

It also bugs me that she is so inimical towards the other gods.  she wants all the 7 idols burned (and their worshippers (Sunglass and two Hambtons)) and to cut down all the weirwoods.  A real god wouldnt concern himself with false ones

It's all been answered.    Except for the tadpole stage of dragons, which I'll be adding next to explain why they need to take human form as part of their life cycle.   Also, I've got a patent pending on the term ShadowVadge TM

To me Mel is just one of the first people in Westeros to relive majic has returned.  I get the impression that her body is quite old and frail and and her current aperance is a glamour.  I also  think that the fact that she does not eat is because she is does not think she needs it.  I also think that the Red Gods "will" is just majic that works by belief  ie- I you think it is true it can happen.  That is my 2 cents, the dragon theory could also be cool, but if it were it would cheapen Dany's feet in giving birth to dragons bringing them out of extinction.

The faith of rhllor, like the faith in the old gods of nature is rooted in celtic mythology. Many rituals involving the end of winter involve bonfires and sacrifice with fire. The celtic faith had two worlds the human world and the otherworld (sometimes called faerie world)and on the winter solstice the druids would communicate with these others. The druids worshipped their white goddess whereas the shamans worshipped a red god the two were supposed to mate to creat harmony with nature, and i think the faith of rhllor is heavily based on the shamans while the cotf and what bloodraven is doing is heavily based on the druids. We'll just have to wait and see what kind of balance will be made at the end of the song of ice and fire

She's a normal human. Her POV show it's all magic and it's all consuming her, but she plays as if they come naturally to her.

She is a normal human lady but because she knows how to use magic she stays alive when in reality she is around 120 years old...

I think she is UnMel. After her vision where she sees Bloodraven and Bran in the flames she goes on to have what seemed to me to be a memory of agony and ecstacy, and flame surging through her body etc. Something about this reminds me of what Lord Beric told Arya about sometimes feeling that he was born on the hilltop with the taste of ash in his mouth and fire in his chest after Thoros brought him back. (Sorry I don't have the quotes.)

UnMel would explain the no food or sleep thing, and as Beric still had memories of who he had been and was still able to remember his swordsmanship, etc., then Mel's skills with magic would also remain intact in her UnMelness.

I think she is just a red priestess really. It is possible she looks different: maybe unattractive or old and the red ruby around her neck provides glamour. I would love her being a evolution of a dragon thing but I doubt dragons have that much brain power to become humans. I don't see her as any different than thoros and morqorro

I think so too. She has very little memory of her life prior to learning some stuff. All she can remember is "Melony, Lot Seven..." Which makes me think she was once a slave.

Is it not possible that maybe she is like over a hundred years old and just can't remember so far ago? And she glamour to make herself young?

Well, I guess if you like a woman who leaks black blood when she is in the throes of ecstacy :)
