I was wondering that when I was reading the chapters where she appears.

We know very little about the Children of the Forest, but I always pictured them as littler creatures than humans. The place she lives in and her ability to forsee also remind of the Children.

It is known that the Children left Westeros long time ago, but I suppose that a few of them could easily have hidden somewhere for very long, using a bit of magic to live under the radar and pass themselves off as dwarves as the Westerosi progressively forgot their existence.
Or she just could have lived alone all this time, we know nothing of the Children's lifespan.

Is this a plausible theory?
