I suspect the start of Winds of Winter will begin with the death of one of Mace Tyrell's sons. We're due a southern prologue after the last one took place beyond the wall. But which?

Willas Tyrell — The seat of Highgarden could fall to the Iron Born.

Garlan Tyrell — Could end up like the Serry boy after he met Victarion, since Garlan is planning to protect Highgarden and retake the Shield Islands.

Loras Tyrell — He could succumb to his wounds, but not before hearing of new developments in the Stormlands.

Thoughts?

I have absolutely no idea, but it would be fitting since we know little to nothing of the Tyrells. It's the only Great House without any POV attached to them. If I could choose, I'd choose one of Loras, so I can see him die.

I think the TWOW prologue will feature the Wall. When I put forth this theory in the past another poster said that Wall prologues only feature in odd books (1, 3, 5) but now I wonder if that really matters. The Winds of Winter sounds like a very grim title, and GRRM may be planning to introduce us to this book with the Others from the get-go. Plus, with Jon dead (if he is dead) we don't have any PoV on the Wall anymore, unless you count Melisandre, so a prologue PoV will be the ideal chance to show the Others invasion. I think it might be Bowen Marsh.

The Cersei chapters have been kind of a Tyrell-attached PoV. The Shield Islands encounter could always be seen through the Ironborn eyes.

I think Loras is up to something on Dragonstone. I dont know why and i have no proof but with Dragonstone being Stannis' castle maybe Loras learns some secret or something??  Isnt Willas a cripple?? Maybe he dies by Ironborn but I would imagine he is well guarded. Garlan seems to work out well. I see no reason why that cant happen

Even though I like Garlan, I would like him as a prologue, with Euron coming up with a plan to defeat the army and fleet (or just some soldiers and galleys), and Garlan getting killed in a badass fight against someone like Andrik the Unsmiling or Euron.

If not a Garlan prologue, then I would like a Willas prologue, where Highgarden gets sacked, rather then the Arbor, or Oldtown.

You're right, there's still the Wall, who else would tell us what happened after Jon got stabbed? But as you say, there's Melisandre on the Wall, she can well provide us with the necessary knowledge, and she is already a POV-character.. Perhaps she'll get a chapter in the beginning of the book.

I hope for certain POV's, and the three Tyrell brother's would be interesting.  But I wouldn't definitively say any of our opinions will be the prologue, there are so many possibilities.  I would assume it would supplement a major storyline.  Also in the last 2 prologues we have seen a sense of foreshadowing with Pate/Jaquen, and Jon Snow in a similar predicament that Varamyr faced.

The next prologue will be a Maester.
AGOT- North of the Wall
ACOK- Cressen a Maester
ASOS- North of the Wall
AFFC- Pate a Maester in training
ADWD- North of the Wall
WoW- another Maester (probably in Dorne)

What about the maester at Starfall? He can report on Darkstar vs Balon Swann, reminisce about the secret goings-on during Robert's rebellion, and then conveniently get spitted by Obara Sand.

I thought GRRM wasn't going to introduce any new POVs in the next two books? Or was that just for the main story, not including the prologue?

Either way, I don't want to see a POV of the Tyrells, except possible Willas (just to know what's going on with Euron's invasion), The best thing about the Tyrells is that their motives are hidden within their flowery exterior, and I don't want to lose that aspect of them by getting into a POV of any of them.

The Tyrells are an interesting thought, but I don't see it happening at this point. Up until now, they've chosen sides rather than acted as a 'side' in their own right, and are only stepping into power because the Lannisters have dropped the ball. We haven't needed a POV to show us what they're up to - so unless Loras or Willas is about to open a big can of worms this late in the story, I'm just not sure what a Tyrell chapter would show us. Cersei (and Arya soon IMO) can cover events at court, and we're already spoilt for choice on POVs following Euron's doings.

 I don't particularly want either Balon Swann or Darkstar to die tbh, so a third-person perspective would leave a little wiggle room on that front.

If the prologue isn't a Tyrell brother, I hope it is Balon Swann, so we can see either Obara or Darkstar kill him.

I think the prologue will likely happen south of the Wall, because it will be the sixth book (not an odd number), but I really see no reason why it would be a Tyrell. It could be anyone. I am hoping for one in court or in Dorne, but really think we cannot say anything for sure.

Also, on the Wall, I believe we will still have Jon, since I believe he is not dead.

I think it's going to be either Darkstar, Balon Swann, Obara, or someone at High Hermitage who witnesses their encounter.  Otherwise, we probably wouldn't learn the results of this encounter until much later, likely through a passing remark by a character who heard of the news somehow, and that would probably omit a ton of details, particularly surrounding Darkstar and his motives.  Him and his storyline have been shrouded in mystery for far too long to not have any sort of importance.

Besides, I think Damphair will be nearby when the Ironborn attack Highgarden, so there's that.  I do think a Tyrell prologue would be awesome, but I don't think we'll get it.

But unlike the epilogues, the poor sucka in the prologue has never been someone of any real importance. Im thinking prob in the south and like the blunted knight said, pos maester.Needs to be someone well placed to see something important.

Well, there have only been two epilogues, and Merrett Frey was hardly of real importance.  At least not moreso than Maester Cressen in my opinion.

I think it will be a soldier in service of Loras or Willas, the prologue POVs die so I would say we get introduce to a Tyrell brother more closely, but nothing more. The wall was a cliffhanger and GRRM didn't solve any cliffhanger in the prologue chapters so far
