I'm not sure whether to take Wisonsin's narrow victory in week 1 as a sign that they're overrated or whether it was just working the kinks out.
Oregon State lost @ Wisconsin last year 35-0 in a game that wasn't really that close.
Mike Riley seems to really believe that this Mannion guy has a lot of potential. Well, last year he perfectly fit the career arch of a Beaver QB by being terrible in his first year. He appeared to derive pleasure from throwing picks. Hopefully he makes strides. I'm actually not too worried about the passing game or the D (relatively speaking). I'm more worried about the running game and O-line depth.

I think OSU will win, but I'm still nervous about the game because the Savannah State game didn't show anyone anything. Lunt is still as much a question mark as ever, as is the receiving core, and this is going to be their first test.

One thing to look at is Rich Rod in year one. His first year at WVU was a losing season at 3-8, as was his first year at Michigan which was the first losing season they'd had in forever. He's NOT an immediate results guy, he needs his players in the system. I definitely think he can make Arizona a really good team... but this year? I don't think so, it would be unprecedented for him.
Talk to me about Arizona in 2-3 years.

Huh...the line opened at OSU -13.5 iirc, so the money is coming in heavy for Arizona for it to drop 3 points like that. I don't know, I'm just nervous about this one for some reason. One definite bright spot is that Arizona turned the ball over a lot against Toledo, and OSU has continued their defensive turnover opportunities. I am concerned that Bill Young won't be calling plays on defense since he's still out for a medical procedure.

First games can be terrible indicators, especially when the second game has a big circle around it. I can see them competing.

S adium sign outside of the box office, police told the Roanoke News.
Stealing the "T" is a longstanding Georgia Tech tradition. Georgia Tech students have been stealing the "T" from the Tech Tower on their campus since the 1960s. Since then, the prank has expanded to stealing "T's" wherever they can.
While the police say they have no leads on who might have stolen the "T," a Facebook group called "Only at [Georgia] Tech" posted a photo Monday afternoon of the sign and its missing "T." It added the caption: "Lane S adium. Only a ech."

While I want FSU top throttle them and seeing big scores is fun...is the money Savannah St is getting really worth it? Rhetorical of course. Would have much rather seen them take on the intended team - WV - but that whole conference flip flop thing happened.

According to the Savannah St. Coach it's not worth it.

But Savannah State does get that combined $860,000 infusion of cash. And its players (at least, the guys still in one piece after this brutal one-two scheduling punch) can someday tell their kids they faced mighty Oklahoma State and Florida State in consecutive weeks.
So, I asked Davenport, is it worth it?
"No," he said. "I think embarrassment lasts a lot longer than $860,000. I might have said something different a week ago."

I am a lifelong Texas Longhorn fan. I have been watching them play every week since I was a kid. Last year, two games were absconded from the regular networks in favor of the Longhorn Network. That would be all fine with me except for one little fact. There is no way that I can pay to get for the Longhorn Network. It is not available on any cable package that can come into my house. That means I miss games.
Last year, it was mildly annoying. This year, it is ridiculous. They chose the first two games of the year to show on this network. That means that I will not be able to truly open my college football watching season until next week,
So, not only has this network alienated other teams causing our biggest rival in aTm, and several other teams to flee from the Big 12, it is now screwing over fans.

That blows, dude. Yours is not the first complaint I've heard about the Longhorn Network. Honestly, if it's not serving Texas fans, I have no idea what its purpose is.
Incidentally, our teams play next week. You'll probably destroy us (despite it being a home game for the Rebels) but I'll be there, and I can't wait to see the spectacle. It'll be a huge event in Oxford, regardless.

first games are the last scrimmages in many cases. after that, the cat is out of the bag and real improvement can commence.
looks like auburn is a dog going into miss state. but mullen has never beaten us. all streaks end and blase, blase. just like most teams in week one, we had our shots. we just didn't take advantage of them.
there were a couple of plays that could've changed the game completely and sometimes you are on the wrong end of that. against a (pre-season) #14, i will take it for now. i'm looking forward to opening up the SEC schedule against a team that is much improved but can't seem to beat us no matter what they do.
WAR EAGLE!!!
ETA: the ole miss vs. UT game will be closer than you think, FA. your D is more than credible for big 12 play and UT's O is mediocre at best this early in the season. 3 yards and a cloud of dust later, you'll be in the game until the end.

Gods I hope y'all beat that smarmy bastard! Just FYI...State fans are VERY fired up for that game, and I'm sure the team is as well. They don't seem to be taking into account the fact that AU is certainly fired up for it as well (and sure as hell doesn't want to go 0-2). I think the key will be Auburn's pass rush versus MSU's unproven offensive line. Get pressure on Russell and he won't beat you.

I'm hopeful. Our 1st team D only gave Central Arkansas 30 yards in the 2nd half last week once halftime adjustments were made ... but the second quarter was a nightmare. Hopefully they've gotten the kinks worked out.
Offensively I think we can make some things happen this year as Freeze is a great offensive mind. But as with MSU, everything will be dependent on our unproven line.

there were many plays against clemson that were saved by boyd's elusiveness. only stage 2 qb's avoid that kind of pressure. i don't think that russell is a stage 2 qb.
additionally, we left the running game for some reason and because of the end results of the clemson game, i don't think that we will do that again.
i see a return to what auburn football has been about my entire life on the horizon. lots of i formation with some play action thrown in coupled with constant fresh bodies on the D line and LB's that rule 53 yards of horizontal yardage and secondary's that takes chances because if they get beat, then they get beat.
i won a national championship without it but i'm glad to see it return.
ETA2: i'm most definitely not a fan of the bulldogs but jarvis jones is gonna kill someone this weekend.
ETA: seriously, i could deal with some better tackling. but that is only because i've read this reply like 83 times.
