I noticed that some users edit one article multiple times in a relatively short time span such as a few minutes. This not only causes the "Recent Changes"-page to be a mess, but also is not good for the wiki's servers in terms of traffic, I believe to recall from other wikis.

It's not that big a deal in terms of server resources unless someone edited a truly massive file dozens of times for no reason. The main concern aside from Recent Changes is that it's annoying for someone who wants to find what was changed where.
