New Belgium Ranger India Pale Ale. The beer store was closed by the time I got back into town so I'm drinking what's left of MC's six pack.

Don't tell.

Drinking our very own Stout, with cocoa powder and raw cacao nibs. It is pretty tasty, not bad for our first brew in many months. It needs to age a bit more, but I am fairly pleased with the overall results.

Later there will perhaps be a finger or two of Stranahan's.

I actually hadn't heard of the concept of diet soda water.  I didn't know what they could take away from regular soda water.  I just noticed it at the grocery store, so I am less ignorant now.

Non-diet tonic water has calories.  It's not tasteless like soda water is plain, although I like that too.

I just like the lime juice, to be honest.  I buy them by the bag.  I love gin and tonic, but I'm not drinking liquor lately.

The tonic and lime seems to just hit the spot.  It's like drinking booze, only not.

Water, now.

Last night, it was a nasty, sugary Hurricane topped with a cherry.  Why do sports arenas sell this crap?  Why did I buy it?  I exercised horrendously poor judgment in drink choice.

Anyone here know a good scotch that's in the Laphroaig range?

Flavour-wise, you mean? Well, there's not much like Laphroaig, but I prefer Ardbeg, which is peatier, but drier and not quite so medicinal. Lagavulin is lovely, but expensive and mixes more sherry flavours with the peat. Caol Ila is very reasonable, but not nearly so peaty. Maybe you could try a peated mainland malt like BenRiach Curiositas or Ardmore, or even a blended malt like Smokehead.

Thanks Hereward! I prefer single malt, so I think I'll try and get me some Ardbeg, or maybe BenRiach.

Some of those whiskys should come with a pronunciaton-key, btw. Just saying.

Of course, if you want to go totally over the top with peat, and have no budgetary restrictions (or respect for your taste buds), get an Octomore.

I'd also recommend trying the blended malt. I won't drink blended whisky neat, but that's because it's harsh and lacking in genuine flavour because of the addition of grain alcohol to the malt. Blended malt doesn't have this problem, so can be every bit as good as a single malt, and some would claim even better.

With you on the pronunciation key, by the way. Finding out how Ledaig is pronounced was probably my biggest WTF moment.
