They doubled down on the fucking nuts factor for this season it appears. I just finished watching, and I am sufficiently shocked.

I am too chickenshit to watch this show, but can someone explain wtf is up with that white habit-wearing lady with creepy all-black eyes? That thing is going to give me nightmares.

What kid are you talking about?

I dvr'd this last night but haven't watched it yet.  I loved AHS last season; the cast was fantastic and Jessica Lange was stellar as Blanche.

Ooh I'm really lookin forward to watching this with my BF tomorrow night.
Loved the first season. For all its flaws, it was a very entertaining and sufficiently creepy show.
I'm not squeamish by any means but asylum stories always freak me out a little.

Just watched it. Yes, it's as ridiculous as the first season. So much ass on display already. The cast is a mishmash of fantastic! I'm curious about the 2012 framing story, seeing as Adam Levine and Jenna Dewan are only credited as guest stars. Maybe they'll last til the end, but just won't appear in every episode? Like Frances Conroy in the first season.

Speaking of Conroy, is she appearing in this season?
She was awesome last season, I'd love to see her again.

She is, I guess starting in episodes 4-5. Also, for Deadwood fans, the amazing Ian McShane will also be guest starting in episodes 8-9.

James Cromwell as the mad scientist/doctor fits the role only too well.  Never trusted him.  I always suspected he killed and ate Babe the pig.  :P

Aliens? An unexpected angle.

I liked the premiere.  All the what-the-fuckery I need for a Wednesday night.  The asylum is creepy enough without the nuns or the mad scientist but you can never have too much of those.  Being committed/confined against my will for nefarious and malicious purposes has always been one of my greatest irrational fears as well, so its hard not to be unsettled by the whole thing.

That is far too long of a wait.

Zachary Quinto gets top billing but doesn't appear in the first episode. Huh. And I just peeked at the cast list and ooohhh Franka Potente will appear as a guest star. Now that's a trifecta of actresses I like: Clea Duvall, Chloe Sevigny and Franka, yay!

Even Dylan McDermott will be in one episode. I nearly crysturbated.

I loved the first season! I can't wait to see the new one
pity the two stories are not connected to each other (I hoped to see some link, but I think it won't happen)

Hmm, I do need to check this show out. I meant to take a look at the first season when it was airing, but I just kind of forgot about it. I might try to catch up with this season first though, since I like watching things as they broadcast. Is there literally no connection whatsoever between the seasons?

EDIT: Whoops, didn't see the above poster. So they are going for totally unrelated seasons? I kind of like that idea. As someone else mentioned it could really help to keep it fresh as time goes on.

Looks totally unrelated so far.  If Dylan McDermott is going to be making a brief appearance, it would have to be in the just-before-present-day time frame, i guess.  He is a psychiatrist, after all.

Really, it's genius to have stand-alone seasons.  It tells a story and moves on, leaving you wanting more.

I wouldn't say it's "genius". It's refreshing sure, but it's also kind of a cop-out. There are tons of things from the first season that needed to be explained. It's easy to come up with a bunch of random stuff, it's not quite as easy to come up with an explanation that makes sense for it. E.g. Lost.

I felt pretty comfortable with the fact that everything pretty much got wrapped up...what wasn't answered?
