So, as some of you may know, I recently helped out by donating some items towards a fundraiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.  The "little" shaving forum I belong to raised over 15k for the cause.

I was pretty impressed by it.

And then I thought to myself, here we are, in our little corner of the internet with thousands of members.  Our little slice of home has lost two members to heart conditions.  Both young, smart, well respected members.  We did the donation for EHK for that Chicago White Sox Kids charity...and that was not bad.  I think we raised over a thousand dollars or so.

I'd like to organize something here to donate to the American Heart Association.  I'd like to get some people who might be willing to donate some cool items our members could bid on, and all the proceeds going to the AHA.

I'm still figuring out how to pull this off with the bids and stuff, we could do it via paypal like before I guess, but I'd like to streamline it a bit more.

Im willing to ante up right now, and say Im willing to put up my A Game of Throne first edition signed by the man himself for people to bid on.

It doesn't have to be all books or GRRM related stuff.  Anything of value that might pull in some coin for the AHA.  Like I know this dude who is supposed to make some killer bacon.  Or maybe someone has a stash of asoiaf tshirts somewhere?  Or maybe someone has some art work?

So I'd like to know if anyone is interested in this?  Surely our forum can top my little shaving forum and beat 15k in donations...right?  RIGHT???

Also wondered if we might be able to sticky this if at all possible while we hash out the organizing of this...if it is at all possible.

I'm in;  I'll ponder what I have to auction, and I'll definitely bid on stuff.

This is a great idea.  Thanks for heading this up!

We had, in ages past, run a charity fundraiser around this time of year.

So you're in for donating some porn, right? :P

If there's interest, I've got entire crate of DVDs from my porn days that I'd be happy to give away.

I'm terminally uncool, so don't really have that much that I could donate (though if someone wants a custom hand-smocked little girl's dress, I'm happy to oblige).  However, please tell me how I could help (and will happily write a check).

I don't have anything ASOIAF related, but would gladly donate my needlework.  When were you thinking of doing this? I can send something already stitched or I can rack me brains  for a bit and come up with something created specifically for this event.  Whichever is fine by me.

If you'd like to see a sample, my etsy shop is in my sig.

Some thoughts:  Id like to hold the auction in late Feb or so.  That gives us time to collect items for folks to bid on, and people to recover a bit from XMas.

Some folks should be expecting PMs incoming from myself as I try and gather more people into this.  :P

As long as we're not breaking any laws, I don't see why we can't auction it if someone is willing to buy it.  And as long as they are "clean".

I won some small, book themed, canvass based artwork at the BWB party at the World Con in Boston that I would put up if you think people would bid anything for them. I could be wrong, but I believe they're original artwork, forget the artist at the moment, and supplied by George and Parris.

Sounds good man.  With the lack of people commenting, I'm willing to take anything at this point.  Kind of worried people may not be interested in something like this.

Also, I'm putting together a donation page for the AHA for EHK and Brude.  Basically I'm trying to write up something that summarizes why we're doing this, our goals, and a bit about David and Tom.

If anyone has some ideas or can help out my silly ass with how to construct this introductory summary about our page, that would be great.

Thanks.

I was thinking the same thing, but the offer will always be open. I'll take some time in the next week or so to look for anything else I could put up.

So I think this is the page I'm setting up for the fundraiser.  All donations go right to the AHA.

Just want to have someone try the link and make sure they can see the information.

ETA:  Again I'd like to expand a bit more in the description area, so if anyone has some ideas, feel free to drop em here or message me.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time brainstorming re: the description, though I'm sure anything you write is fine. I have some ideas regarding the bidding structure, but I'm stumped with how to get items/services. I think mostly it'll be getting people to offer anything (legal :P), and maybe looking at past auctions to see what sorts of items do well.

Normally I'm the bidder, not the seller, so I'm not used to this side of things!

Well as of right now, speaking for myself only, I have that first edition AGOT signed Im going to auction off.  Plus I have a Millenium Falcon model original from 1983.  Still in original box, assembly waiting on whomever bids the highest.
