Then how could they have met and become friends if Tywin didn't leave Casterly Rock and Aerys didn't leave the Red Keep?

Both Aerys and Tywin were the right age to be squires during the War of the Ninepenny kings. That's the kind of experience that would start some spirit of camaraderie between two young men.

Aerys became King when he was only 16 or so, wasn't he? At the same time he fathered Rhaegar. Does that mean that Tywin was married to Joanna that young too?

Aerys was 19 when crowned at 262. The Lannister twins were born at 266, so probably Tywin married Joana in his early twenties.

Rhaegar was born at 259, the year of the tragedy of Summerhall (when Aerys was 16)

Varys destroyed the relationship between Aerys and Tywin in order to destabilize the realm.

What evidence supports this? Varys has only acted to "destabilize the realm" so as to seat a Targaryen back on the Iron Throne, never to put one off. If anything, Varys might have been one of the players urging Rhaegar to take the throne and end the Mad King's follies.

Well, we still don't know the true motif of Varys and Illyrio. We can't say that he suppporting the Targs, it could be a Blackfyre for all we know. And why wouldn't Varys do that? He warned Aerys that his son Rhaegar was using the tourney of Harrenhal to rally Lords to his cause to remove Aerys as king. If he did that, why wouldn't he be able to create a rift between Aerys and Tywin?

Varys's influence on Aerys's grew with the kings paranoia, and he was quick to point out traitors to his liege.

Further, I believe Varys wanted Tywin removed as hand. He told Aerys NOT to open the gate to the Lannisters, before The Sack of Kings Landing. Aerys listened to Grand Maester Pycelle instead and opened the gates. Which didn't turn out to be a smart move.
