The Wire: Continued

Bubbles has such a perfect character arc. Those moments with him in season 5 were excellent.

When he is at the NA meeting and says "Ain't no shame in holding onto grief, as long as you make room for other things too". That line made me cry. Really great actor.

It annoys me how many of the great actors on the Wire went on to do absolutely fucking nothing. Bloody Hollywood/television/whatever is keeping them from getting more work.

Funny, have seen quite a few on things this year.

Slim Charles was on Elementary

Brodie, was on The Good Wife

Cutty is on The Walking Dead

Clay Davis is on L&O: SVU

Bunny has been on a lot things, but is now on Nashville? really?

Marlo and Omar were both on No Reservations w/ Bourdain

Barksdale was in Dredd

Stringer Bell has Luther

Carcetti is of course is on GoT

a few are on Banshee

and a bunch have been on Treme (also by D Simon)

A lot of them were also local Baltimore actors who, I believe, were theater buffs or remained content to stay at the local area. Although I did see Poot in Las Vegas about three months ago. He's very short, but I fangirled too much to say anything to him.

McNulty was offered the role of Mance. He declined.

I hope they get some some Wire alums for the future seasons of GoT.

I am going to commit board heresy right now and say that I don't think this show was the best thing ever. I have only watched the first season, and although the acting, and writing is superb, There are a number of shows that I have enjoyed more. I will eventually catch the rest of the seasons, but nothing that I saw in season 1 made this a must see for me.

A lot of these aren't exactly starring or even recurring gigs though. I think its a shame guys like J.D Williams/Bodie and Andre Royo/Bubbles can't get steadier gigs. I mean, kudos on Dominic West, Michael K Williams and Idris Elba all coming out of the Wire with serious careers, but a lot of other good actors are only getting bit parts and I think that just plain sucks.

Come back and tell us what you think after seasons 2 - 4.

I think it's number 2 right behind The Sopranos.

Am I the only guy that didn't think the Sopranos was all that great? It's just every Scorsese gangster flick stretched out over a couple seasons. No doubt it was a good show, but not the best thing ever produced for television.

Nah, I'm with you.

I've always felt part of the appeal of the show is wrapped up in many people's inherent interest in the whole organized crime thing.

A lot of the Sopranos appeal (which I actually really enjoyed the show) is its influence, spawning later series like Mad Men and Breaking Bad.

Oz, for example, I recently watched that series for the first time, and thought it was pretty bad ;) but the influence it had on a lot of later shows (like Sopranos and Wire) is obvious.
