Have to go with...

Judge Holden from Blood Meridian. Arguably the greates villain in American literature.

This. Also, Suttree is one of the most boring books that Ive read.

Great characters:

Boromir

Bob Lee Swagger

Hector

Snape

the protagonist from Darkness at Noon

Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain (real person, but counts b/c of the Killer Angels)

Myshkin. The boarder. Not from that russkie bullshit.

Well thank you. I've always fancied myself a pretty awesome character, though sadly few seem to recognize my genius. Though I will say that Prince Lev Myshkin (from Russkie Bullshit) is also a neat character.

Kallor from Malazan - it had been always thus

Kharl from Recluce - somehow 2nd coming of age stories of people in their 40's always seem inspiring

x2 for Ostap Bender, too bad its untranslatable to western audience

Cannot think of a real list now, but I guess I can express my love for Mr. Collins ... I do not think I laugh that much whenever I read anything else. :P

Holden Caulfield

Why? I personally hated him and the whole book ...

Ostap Bender. That is all (you may need to Wiki this or something, as too many people have no idea of this satire masterpiece)

:wideeyed: That is a novel! Mind blown. I only saw the movie. Anybody knows how the two compare?

Heavily depends on which movie you saw? There are many!!

There's the russian musical from late 70's, the fantastic 2-parter from earlier 70s which uses 2 diff actors (one for his face, one for the dub voice... actually there's a 3rd guy's voice for singing) and the shitty newest remakes , Mel Brooks american version perhaps?
