Countdown to the Asia Premiere

Before the premiere of Season 3 in the states, many of you were counting down the days to the premiere. Here in Asia we don't get to see it until April 20th when HBO Asia airs it which is of course 3 weeks later than the US premiere. That is why I'm doing my own little countdown on my Facebook page. 8 more days to go. Fortunately for me I still have not read all 5 books so I'm not lacking in ASOIAF material to keep me busy till then.

The reason for the three week gap is because here they edit out the profanity and nudity. Sometimes this is a little tricky as it might remove important lines that will be relevant later on. But for the most part I don't miss a lot.

I've been told by countless people: Just watch it on the Internet. I would if I could believe me. Because 1. Here in Indonesia we cannot make online purchases (yes I know we are in the stone age) and 2. Even when I tried various websites to view episodes I get this message (paraphrasing): Sorry we are not available for your country.

There is one advantage we have here though: While the Americans are complaining about how long the wait is until the next season, we here are still enjoying the latter episodes.

Try torrenting dude (bad influence much?). Part of the fun is identifying the scenes edited out in the HBO Asia version .e.g the epic Sandor f-u scene.

I did like HBO Asia's promo where the 3EC is flying over what I believe are skyscrapers, unless my eyes are tricking me.

I am very pleased to learn that the Asian premier of Season 4 is only 1 week behind the US premiere instead of 3 weeks behind like in the past. Looks like they are working faster at removing the profanity and nudity.

Americans need only wait 3 weeks. Here I need to wait 4 weeks.

Interesting topic. I didn't know that the episodes would be edited in various other countries. Just curious, how do they edit out the profanity? I mean, do viewers just hear a beep instead of the profanity, or do they replace the curse word(s) with milder words? Like, instead of the Hound, for example, saying: 'F*ck the king', would you hear instead him saying something like 'Heck with the king.' As to editing out the nudity, do you then see an obvious jump in the scene when the nude scene has been cut, or do they 'grey out' the nude parts?

Interesting stuff!

Still not impressed. We get The Walking Dead only an hour after it aired in the US, but we have to wait a week for GOT? :p

The Hound's line was completely cut. It's annoying, it looked like he just went off silently after Tyrion confronted him. It's really silly, imo .. HBO Asia doesn't have subtitles, but other networks do & they replace words like bitch with witch (idg the connection) & damn with darn.

They completely cut nude scenes, even the suggestive scenes like Renly/Loras in s1.

So. each episode only last 10 minutes in Asia? :p

I guess you could cut out most of the nude and sex scenes without too much damage to the plot, it's only something like 9 minutes a season. How the hell did they get around the ending of the first episode though? I mean, the whole twincest thing is pretty damn important! They didn't cut that too, did they?

It's there, they just cut the frame showing Cersei's bare back.

Painted Table sex scene, pregnant Mel & shadowbaby birth scene was cut, they only showed the shadowbaby gripping Mel's feet... My got roomie got so confused

Nah, it's not that bad. The worst censorship is the long scenes with full nudity. They are cut more than half the length and the lines and frames can be choppy (is that the right word?). The most acceptable kind of censorship is the kind where the frames are not cut but zoomed in so the nudity will be off the screen. Like instead of seeing breasts, we only see the face and shoulders.
