I was seven in 1996 so that would have been hard for me.

I started in 2002-3 (can't remember exactly).

I read the books right after Season One ended in 2011. So, I've been with the series for almost two years.

I was only a year old when AGoT first came out, and sadly, i couldn't read yet.

I started last year after watching the first season and the first epi of the second season. I already had the first book but just couldn't get into the mood to read them until suspense got the better of me. I especially wanted to know why the hero died.

Started reading after watching first two episodes, and finished the first book before Sean Beans head got lopped off... After that bought and read the remaining books before season two started.

OP, there are many on the forum, but they mostly post in GenChat and extremely rarely peek here.

I think I started 2007ish.

This was actually explained pretty well in the show ...

Old timer here but not a continuous reader. Started in 1998. But after ASoS, I forgot all about the books and the series. Real life took over and I did not even think about it until the TV series came out and I realized Martin had written AFfC in 2005. Of course then I had to re-read the books.

I downloaded the 1st book to my kindle while watching the 2nd episode of the 1st season. I've read them all twice since...

I was 12 in 1996... Not quite yet appropriate - although if I had heard about it - that wouldn't have stopped me.

I don't particularly feel guilty as I would have been about two years old in 1996. I started reading after the first season of the show, like many others here.
