TV Tommen [Spoilers]

I was wondering, does anybody have any idea if we'll see Tommen this year and if the same actor will portray him coming up.

For someone that is going to become king, we haven't seen very much of him or had his character developed at all and I don't know if TV audiences will remember much about him when he suddenly becomes king...

Ah crap. This is true. Come to think of it...I don't even remember what Tommen looks like on the show. I've read the books several times so I won't be thrown off when it happens, but non-book readers might be like, "who the hell is that kid?".

I know! They should really give him a little more screentime this and next season. I was asking some of my friends that only watch the TV-show about this and they thought Joffrey only had a sister. The one that was shipped of they said haha.

Strange they'd remember that and not the altogether more chilling "Mommy is going to make you drink poison" Blackwater battle scene.

Entirely possible they change the actor around the time of the Purple Wedding, but if they don't factor that in until next season (as seems likely) then they've given themselves time to change the actor to whatever looks more suitable (or a bigger "name actor") at that time, as in Beric Dondarion and soon Selyse Baratheon

I'm not sure what they're gonna do with tommen. He needs to be a little kid for his story to make sense, but they can't really recast him with someone younger or people will start asking questions about why Bran and the other Starks have aged and Tommen hasn't. I see some re-writes coming.

And to be fair, he wasn't horribly developed in the books. That's kinda the thing, that this small kid comes around with practically no influence and no idea what he's doing.

He did like kittens. Oh, and stamping things with the royal seal. He was only about 7-8 last year so a 9-10 year old coming into the thrown will still look very young.

I had to remind my mom that Jaime and Cersei had children other than Joffrey. She had forgotten both Tommen and Myrcella. To me, that suggests they would be wise to start giving both of them a bit more characterization.

Well, Myrcella is in Dorne and the Dornish aren't yet cast, so I think she's offscreen at least until next season at the earliest.

Yep, nothing that can be done about that.

I will say that, unlike the other child actors, we haven't had much proof of acting ability from the two younger 'Baratheon' children. Whenever people gush about how surprisingly talented the child actors are in this show, they're referring to Maisie and Isaac and Sophie, not these two. Outside of the dinner scene with Sansa and Tommen on Cersei's knee in Blackwater, the two have practically been mutes. It makes me wonder if the show creators are worried about whether they can hold their own in important scenes.

They should just throw in a scene of Joffrey being mean to Tommen while he's playing or something. Have Margaery comfort Tommen afterwards. I'm sure we'll see him a couple of times over the second half of the season. Season 4 will be when he's much more involved. they can always reestablish his character with the "Previously on Game of Thrones" segment.

Myrcella just needs to be mentioned from time to time. Cersei remarking about her being shipped off to Dorne by her foul Brother or something.

There was something like that in the scene where his sister is leaving for Dorne, he's sobbing, then Joffrey ridicules him.

I have no problem with the kid who plays him, but I did notice that he's not fat or chubby at all.

Which is not a problem... They introduce him when they need to, different kid actor or not, no one will remember anyway. "Here, this is Joff (may the Gods rest his soul) 's younger brother, heir to the throne."

i hope that they either do change the actor, or give him some voice acting lessons, cos there's a scene in season 2 where he's says something to cersei and he quite blatantly has a scouse (liverpool) accent which is completely out of place and quite funny actually.

They didn't replace Selyse's actor. Selyse just had't shown up yet. The Mountain is the other example of actor-switching, but it wasn't intentional as it was with Beric.
