The future of Locke? [Book Spoilers]

Recommended Posts

Now that we know how the bearpit scene plays out – that is to say, we see that both Locke and his ears survive intact – what do you think the show will do with his character, if anything?

More to the point, am I the only one hoping that Locke and co. will replace the Tickler and co. at the inn? I really want that scene to be as powerful onscreen as it was in the books (though I honestly don't see how it can even come close now that the Tickler is dead), but at least Locke would be recognizable to the audience and give the fight some additional story closure. Plus, since he is stationed at Harrenhall, it would also make sense for one of his companions to be carrying Needle.

Thoughts?

They already cast Polliver, they showed him having Needle, so it should be him... They could add in Rorge and / or Biter, they are sufficiently nasty to 'be remembered', plus, as in the book, the scene could easily be written in a way that re-establishes who they were, it's not like Polliver got that many mentions in the book.

Locke could just be Greatjonned off, what I would not like is Roose simply leaving his men to die, he did that to the Brave Companions, he wouldn't do that to his own men (he always made sure to conserve his strength).

I don't think Locke can replace Polliver, as there is no relationship between Arya and Polliver, but I don't think the showrunners are done with him either. I had the crazy idea that, if the BF goes to meet Howland Reed and carry Robb's will, then Locke could replace him in Riverrun when Jaime goes there. But Edmure would probably have little reasons to let him go, and Jaime even less reasons to spare him. It would reflect their first meeting, when Locke is in a position of power, and by then, Jaime will be in such a position.

Someone said last week that Locke will be one of the Brigands that Brienne runs into on the disheveled castle by the shore

I like this idea a lot, buuuut... that's such a long time from now. The show has already cut/changed quite a few characters from fear that audiences won't remember them. Unless they can come up with something meaningful for Locke to do until then, I'd be surprised if they brought back the character so late in the game.

Maybe Locke could join them too? (It's not that I'm especially hung up on Locke, but it would be nice to give that show arc closure -- unlike, say Dontos.)

My prediction: Jamie feeds him to the bear in the season finale.

Let's assume that the PW is happening next season, maybe around midway through, Let's also assume that Jamie is not present at the PW as in the books (even though I cannot think of problems that would arise with him being present, although I would miss his "reunion" scene with Cersei if that were the case). The show will need excuses to keep him and Brienne from bee-lining straight back to King's Landing now that they've left Harrenhal.

I imagine that a horde of Lannister soldiers meets him halfway on the King's Road. He insists that they ride back to Harrenhal instead for "unfinished business". The Lannister men slaughter Locke's men, and Locke gets fed to the bear. The audience is reminded that, redeemed or not, Jamie is still a badass, and his arc ends on a high note for the season.

I think Roose Bolton basically set-up Locke's doom by specifically exonerating himself in the dinner scene with Jaime and Brienne. Couple that with Jaime's concern/respect for Brienne, the Lannister's always repaying a debt bit, the Mountain needing some more screen time and Tywin Lannister's wrath and I believe we will get the Mountain retaking Harrenhal, capturing Locke and something similar to what happened to Vargo Hoat in the books. I doubt it happens this season, though it could very well be something Bolton is forced to agree with as part of his future "arrangement."

i hope he sticks around for awhile noah taylor is amazing to watch he just one of those actors that i can watch all day because hes that good

This. Noah Taylor is just a blast. I'd really like it if Locke stuck around to be the mad dog of the Saltpans come S5/Brienne's journey time. Her story in AFFC is slammed the most for being boring, so having a memorable antagonist in Locke that she already has a history with could be a great way to spice it up.

Or I could see him being given to Gregor as in the books, or maybe even Ramsay as punishment. Especially in Gregor's case it would serve as a good reminder for just what kind of fella he is - I don't think most Unsullied have forgotten him, even the casual ones, (that horse was a hell of an introduction) but it wouldn't hurt to have a scene like that before all the Oberyn stuff starts.

Those would be the best two possibilities IMO. I'd just like some kind of closure on him in the end, he's a fun villain with a good actor.

That could definitely work. This would be a great way to remind the Unsullied how sadistic the Mountain is before his fight with Oberyn.

They won't spare screentime for a Locke/Mountain confrontation - every scene needs to be anchored with some kind of significant character to justify the minutes it takes up in a script.

Brienne meeting him again on her journeys sounds far more likely. He'll be back in the second half of next season, I predict.

Ok this is the way I see it: Jaime returns to KL, arrives at the Red Keep. Just like in the book, Roose's men pick up "Fake Arya" (if its still included on the show). The Bolton escort departs KL and en route to the Twins, they stop at Harrenhal to regroup with Locke, and then depart the castle and go to the Twins, where they meet Roose.

Now after the Red Wedding, Roose did not leave the Twins right away he waited; receiving awards from Tywin, receiving "Arya", and sending word to Ramsay with orders to clear the way.

or

Jaime's escort still pick up "Fake Arya" and do not go to Harrenhal instead they go all the way to the Twins.

Now Remember Vargo cut off Jaime's hand to drive a wedge between Roose and Tywin because he knew the Leech Lord was going to switch sides. That storyline can still be included, yes Roose does preserve his strength but maybe he left Locke at Harrenhal not to hold but in all actuality, Clegane or levies from the Tyrell-Lannister force will be sent to retake it and kill the Bolton men there.

Now on to Locke being at the inn, pff come on now Arya has no beef with him and why of all people would he have Needle that does not make any sense!
